Hello! My name is Anastasiia and we are family from Ukraine. Thanks UK for the opportunity to live in safety with children. I have 6 children: 4 blood and 2 adopted.
Now we renting our big 4 bedrooms house, but our landlord already said we can’t continue our contract. We have tried to rent private houses from Zulpa or Rightmove app, but it’s nothings because our income is not enough for renting houses with price around 2000 pounds per month…
I was in council already too, but they said me I have around 0 chances of finding a house with 5 bedrooms. I'm desperate and want some advice. I'm scared to be left with my children on the street…
sorry for my English 🙏🏻

I checked it in LHA calculator and it’s said 4 will be enough, but in council said me exactly no… because my oldest one is 18, then 15, 14, 11, 10 and 4…

I shared a bedroom with my two sisters growing up! And my brother had a box room, There was four of us and my mum in a 3 bed! If they’ve got a roof over their heads they won’t mind sharing, take what you can while you can!☺️

so depending on genders you could have the 15,14,11, 10 in one room

no, because 15 boy, 14 girl, 11 girl and 10 boy

so the 15,10 would go together and the 14 and 11 would go together x

Unfortunately, the council said that they could not help, and I don’t know how we can rent a house for 2000 (the average price for a 4 bedroom in our city) if they ask for a minimum income of 66,000 pounds a year

Housing costs are insane, it really sucks. Sounds like in this situation the options for reducing the cost are moving to a less expensive area, and room sharing. If it's not a council property then there are no rules about how many can share.

yes, 1 bedroom for us, 2 for 18 years son, 3, for girls 14 and 11 and 4 for boys 15 and 10, but! they said my youngest one needs having separate room in her 4 years 😭

technically the council should flat your 18 year old and he’d get top priority A band if he’s sharing a room with the other two boys for the time being, so he’d be sorted! And the youngest can share with whatever gender they are, there’s no rule to say they aren’t allowed, otherwise get a house with a separate dining room and a 3 bed and convert the dining room into a downstairs bedroom x

Move to a cheaper part of the UK. Your 2k will go much further in the north of England.

Without sounding mean, surely the council don’t class your 18 year old as a dependent child. They are an adult and not vulnerable like a smaller child. The 4 year old they would probably class as able to bunk with her sisters or you x

Also you can deff fit a 3 bed house. 3 boys in 1 room. 3 girls in the other.

The 18 year old the council will treat as an adult and therefore having separate housing needs to the rest of you. He could be housed separately. In terms of the rest of you, people in this situation frequently have to make a 3 bed work because prices are too high and there aren’t many bigger rental properties around. You could do this by having all girls in one room, all boys in the other, or you sleeping in the living room so that the children have more bedrooms available to them. As others have said, it will be worth relocating to a less expensive area of the UK too, north of England is far cheaper than the south.

we can’t do it now exactly because my second son finished year 10 and it’s difficult for him to learn all subjects in English. It will be stressful too much to him. And my husband has fantastic job in school as kitchen assistant and has permanent contact. He has low level of English and we are so happy that he could find a job.

landlord doesn’t want even to do looking at houses for our family when they find out the number of children

I would love to rent a large 3 bedroom house, but... the landlord does not choose our family with so many children...

I've been stuck in a bedsit with my baby for almost a year 😭 the council so not have enough houses for anyone

is this temporary housing?

Do you have an option to go back to the council for assistance? If they housed you in a smaller home the option of houseswapping is there. You may not get a 5 bedroom as they are hard to come by but possibly a 4 in any part of the UK

yes. Been here since October 2022 been on housing list since before I was pregnant and are now top priority but still placing in the 50s for a 2 bed

I've already heard about the exchange, but I can't understand how it works? where can I look more about this? They just put us on a waiting list and told us that we can only apply for 5 bedrooms... I think if we say that our eldest son will not live with us, then perhaps they will give 4 bedrooms?

Will drop you a message

@anastasiia yeah that sucks that landlords will discriminate like that. I guess areas of the UK with more supply/lower demand will be less like that although not easy to move if your kids have made friends/you've started settling in where you are

The housing here in the uk is long wait times and not many suitable homes, I know people on council list for 4-5 years who have overcrowding one girl I know has 3 kids in a small 2 bed flat she sleeps in her living room

That's the problem. Our children had a hard time with the move and the war, but now they seem to have adapted and love their schools.

no, they told me that they could give me temporary rooms, but it would be the whole house for our seven because there are 8 of us
