Hi all,
Has anyone lost weight during pregnancy safely? The only way to curb the first trimester nausea was to eat and I’ve put on 5kg in this second pregnancy. With my first pregnancy I put on 27kg and it was really hard on the other side to drop it. I’d like to safely grow this second bub without stacking it on. TIA!

It depends on your starting bmi what is safe to do. With my first pregnancy I gained 8 kg throughout the pregnancy and once bub was born I was 5kg less than what I started out at, but how much you should gain depends on your starting weight (I was told to aim for 7kg so a little over)
bmi 27 so in overweight category, hence why I’d like to curb it or slightly lose a bit.

You'd need to ask your Dr what you should gain overall, I was higher than 27 so not sure what that would look like

I wouldn’t focus on the weight too much - just have a balanced diet and try to maintain the weight instead of losing it
I had GD in my pregnancy and I lost weight towards the end as I was not eating any sugar and barely any carbs but that’s also not healthy as it’s not balanced but I had to do it due to the GD

I had GD with all 3 of my babies.. and my most recent who’s now 4mths, I only put on 5kg the whole pregnancy. Portion size and eating much healthier helped me

I had GD and hence was on portion control to control carb intake. I used to eat small portions every 3 hours. And I would think I lost weight- in the sense that my postpartum weight (2 days after delivery) was 2 kg lesser than my pre pregnancy weight.
I don’t think it is healthy to push for total weight loss (meaning you need to loose more weight than the baby, placenta and amniotic fluid). Would suggest you consult a dietician or doc if the ambition is higher.
