Hey mamas,
How do you handle flying and pumping? How much milk do you pack for flight travel day feeds?
My family has a trip planned next month, and I’ve been brainstorming the best way to fly w pumped milk for my LO (8 months) Our total travel time will be about 6am (leaving home) to roughly 1:30/2pm when we reach destination rental.
Thinking of pumping for 30 mins before we leave and taking that milk w me. I’m thinking of packing at least 3 bottles worth of milk (18 oz) for feeds during our traveling. Should I bring more?
I’ll probably do one pump while traveling, but I’d like to save that milk for the next day feeds.
TIA.

I would say bring as much as you think they will need every 2 hours your in the airport and flying. For instance my baby drinks about 2.5-3oz every 2 hours so for a 6 hour flight plus the 2 hours I have to be there before hand I'll probably take 3 bottles for the plane 2 for the airport and an extra one just in case she gets fussy. Do you have a bottle bag with the ice pack? Those come in handy. And defiantly pump on the plane don't let anyone discourage you from doing so, fresh pumped milk last 4 hours so you can use that as extra supply or replace the supply you use from the bottle bag. You got this!

That's if you have a portable pump

I took 3 8 oz bottles and had 4 clean bottles to pour in. I brought as much frozen as I could fit in my bag and put one in the regular size to thaw. I have a mom cozy so I just pumped right before the first flight and on our layover.

The 3 8 oz bottles were from the day before. Not frozen, just refrigerated.

When we flew uk to america i took just under a litre and pumped on schedule.
And when we flew uk to Europe i had half a litre and pumped on schedule aswell.
Unfortunately i dont make enough to have a stash but being able to pump in the airport / on the plane meant i had no issues.
Remember you will need a little more / or work feeds around take off and landing to help with ear pressure.
I stored my milk / pumps with cooler bag and ice blocks and this worked a treat. When we went to the US i had a zip lock bag with me and when I thought i needed it i asked the flight attendants to fill with ice to keep the bag cool when the ice blocks started to loose their coldness :)

When I flew out of the uk, the frozen milk was the easiest to transport through security. We’re flying next month and I’m hoping to take a few frozen bags but with flight delays I ended up throwing away some milk as it had defrosted
