Advice needed asap. Me and my partner have been together for 3 years and have an 18 month old. Back story - It became apparent to me whilst pregnant he is a functioning alcoholic. After our daughter was born because I had no excuse to not drink with him in the evenings, I regretfully and slowly picked up on his habit of drinking most nights (after never being a big drinking my whole life) just because.
Fast forward to now.. I work longer hours than him and so most nights when I come home he’s already poured me a glass of wine.. on top of this knowing I’ve said we both need to stop he sweetens it up by buying me flowers to go with it or writing me a nice message on our notice board etc.
Here’s my dilemma, every night I come home and I’m upset/disappointed that he’s bought alcohol again when he’s promised me he won’t any more but when he’s making sweet gestures along side it and the last thing I want to do with the man I love is argue, I let it slide.
But how do I win.. how do I stop us both drinking, stop him buying it most evenings whilst also avoiding argument 😫

currently going through something similar. I have an addictive personality but I had no problem not drinking during pregnancy, however around 4mo pp he started coming home from work with drinks and I would have a few with him. at first it wasn’t an everyday thing until it was. now i’m 9mo pp and I feel like I need it almost everyday. me and him argue when we drink though so we’ve decided to try to quit just one day at a time. I know it must be tempting when you’re ready to quit but he has a glass poured for you anyway. I don’t have too much advice to offer as i’m in the same boat but I just wanted to wish you the absolute best and to know you’re not alone!! ♥️

You need to do couples therapy where you can be honest with each other and love each other at the same time it’s coming from the heart so make sure to tell him you love him and want him to live to see his child’s big moments in there life and to live a healthier lifestyle now with some alcoholics like my husband used to do it because of self medication from aspd and odc but now he does therapy and he can’t drink alcohol because his drinking almost burst his gallbladder (I didn’t know that could happen until we were in the hospital until 4 am ) but it does take a toll on your body and after everything he doesn’t go near it he also was on medication to stop drinking
