Hey I’m interested to know how others feel about leaving their baby with parents/in-laws. My MiL has been pushing me to leave our baby alone with her since he was born and I don’t really feel that comfortable doing it yet. My partner thinks I’m overthinking it, but LO seems too little to go out with his grandparents! They keep going on about taking him to a cafe for cake / pushing him on the swings and he’s way too little for that!
Doesn’t help that MiL has been quite odd with me since he was born and has openly ignored my boundaries around washing hands/not kissing etc.

I would say if you don’t feel ready, stay with your gut instinct. Someone once told me that family have ‘forever’ to see and spend time with little one, so perhaps don’t rush it if you don’t feel comfortable yet (but of course it’s your choice).
I haven’t left little one with parents or in laws yet but did leave him with my sister & partner for a few hours in the evening. He slept the whole time though x

Don't do anything you don't want to do! It's not worth the mental stress when u already have the mental load of being a new mum to deal with! The in laws will have to deal with it xxx

I don't feel comfortable leaving my little one with PIL yet. I wish I did but the MIL doesn't respect our boundaries or wishes (kissing baby, changing nappy when I asked my husband to do it, we specifically asked her not to and she continued to change him on her knee at a couple of months old!) There have been a fair few incidents like this. I wish I felt comfortable enough to leave him with them but I just can't. If they don't respect our wishes while we are there then God knows what would happen if we weren't there. Xx

Just to offer a different perspective, we've left our boy with partner's parents during the day multiple times since he was a couple of weeks old, even a couple of overnight stays. Even though there's been a couple of incidents of small disregards of wishes as it happens with relatives (it was more that my partner didn't enforce my wishes in front of them). I think for us as mums in most cases is normal to trust our own parents more than partner's because it's OUR parents and also we can be more firm with them in terms of our wishes while with parents in law it's more awkward. But overall she's raised 4 other grandkids and I know she knows what she's doing. But at the end of the day it's up to your level of comfort and them as people 😊 I've also left him with my mum multiple times when she visited (lives overseas) for a couple of hours during the day when he was 2-6 weeks old, and even my 18 year old sister too when he was 3-4 months old as I saw I can trust her and she had the willingness to.

@Kalina yeh I completely agree we do always feel we can trust out parents more, and it is awkward telling the in laws our wishes - i do it in a nice way but im probably far more firm with my parents as i feel i can be without it bwing awkward xxx

Hi my in laws are the loveliest people ever but I still say no to there offer to having baby alone, nothing to do with them but I don’t feel ready yet, and until I do it’s a no. People should respect your decision always xx

If you don’t feel ok with it then don’t do it. My mum and dad are having my little one for 4 nights in September but I trust them with the world and they’re having her at our house x
Thanks so much everyone. I think I just need to stay firm in maintaining my boundaries with them until I’m ready no matter how annoyed they get!

For everyone that has let their precious LOs stay with their own parents but not the PIL’s
How on earth did you do it? Or okay it?
My partner is in a tit for tat war with me all the time… sometimes I feel like MIL wants to be/ tries to be my LG’s mum…
With being a FTM I’m really struggling mentally and he just isn’t understanding … (they’re first time grandparents, my parents aren’t )

I will only leave my baby with my husband until I feel ready. End of story. If you’re in laws and parents can’t understand that then that’s their issue not yours.
