I was using a non-fluoride toothpaste for my LO’s milk teeth when they first popped out around 6-9 months. I didn’t realize the tooth paste was specifically for milk teeth until literally yesterday and she’s now 21 months and pretty much has all her teeth. I’m a FTM and freaking out a little - Google says you can use this kind of toothpaste till they’re 3, but I also saw things that says a low fluoride should be used.
I’m just worried about the possibility of inadvertently ruining her teeth! Any advice or feedback on this? TIA!

You can use regular toothpaste when they know how to spit the toothpaste out after brushing

If she has been to a dentist, it’s likely they did a fluoride varnish. Also, unless she’s drinking only purified water, there is fluoride in most water that helps as well (our dentist even said brushing with tap water was enough in those super early days when baby first got teeth).
Some people avoid fluoride altogether. Because you’ve been brushing her teeth she’s probably ok, unless she’s been going to bed with a bottle or you can visibly see damage/decay. Best to bring her to the dentist anyway for a routine checkup if you haven’t already!

thank you! She definitely doesn’t know how to spit out toothpaste yet. I can barely get her to spit out things that she’s definitely not supposed to put in her mouth crayons, toys, etc. 😅

good point, thank you! She did have that done at the dentist when she turned one. And I haven’t noticed anything wrong with her teeth since. The only way I realized any of this was going on was because she was playing with the toothpaste tube and when I took it away from her, I read that it was for milk teeth for the first time 🤦🏽♀️

I've never heard of "milk teeth".. is that just another name for baby teeth?
my dentist said kids fluoride toothpaste is fine and I've been using it since she was probably a year old 🤷♀️ just use a little smear on the toothbrush, not a bunch like we would put on our own

yeah, I think it’s for the two little teeth that sprout up when they’re still drinking milk but no real solids yet.
