Taking my baby swimming for the first time - what are the essentials that I need? And any tips? TIA xo

Baby will need a swim nappy (disposable or reusable) and neoprene Happy Nappy. Depending on pool temperature a fleece-lined warm in one wetsuit (we put it on her even in a 30° pool). A towel to wrap baby in after (we take at least the wetsuit off before wrapping her in the towel as the neoprene holds the water so just makes the towel soaking).
Swim nappies don't hold liquid at all - so get baby ready at the pool.
Wear your swim things to the pool and remember to put underwear in your bag for after! You also need a towel for yourself and a pound or 2 for the lockers if applicable (we used 2 lockers until recently - one for swim bag, one for changing bag).

We have the Splash About changing mat to dress her on the floor as the lesson pool has no changing table, plus if she wees while changing or with the swim nappy on while I get sorted it dries out quick/easier to clean than our normal changing mat but it's not essential.
Feed a little bit before and prepare to feed after. Baby will also likely nap very well afterwards!
Don't expect baby to last ages - we've gone from 10 minutes her first lesson to the full half hour lesson to an hour at the local pool.
After, wrap baby in a towel and get yourself dry before tending to baby. You don't want to be dripping over a dry baby (I don't get my hair wet at the pool for this reason - it drips for ages after!)
If I'm on my own I tend to feed her, dry myself, then change her, then change myself. If I'm with my partner, he gets dry and dressed while I feed her, then he gets her changed while I change.
Give baby a bath later that day to wash off chlorine.
Most importantly - have fun and don't stress about it.

We just take a towel, swim nappy and a uv safe rash suit from sainsburys as we go to an indoor and heated outdoor pool. You don't NEED anything else, anything else is just a nice to have
Thank you girls!! Xx
