Follow on Formula!
My girl is currently on SMA 1 and is 6months and 1 week.
I see follow on milk in the shops, and I just wondered why the HV says not to switch to it?? My only thought making me want to switch is that it’s a couple of pounds cheaper; but if there is not benefit, or if it will cause her more bad than good (I’ve seen they can cause dental decay????) then I’ll happily stick to stage 1.
Anyone used this particular follow on, or any follow on before??

I was told that they get all the nutrients from the first milk and the follow on milks are just a gimmick to get you to buy more products
It's identical to stage 1 milk bar a bit extra iron etc which they get from weaning and too much iron can constipate them badly. It's all a con with follow on milks so company's can advertise it as legally they're not allowed to promote stage 1 milks.
Follow on milks are allowed to be advertised as they are not "breast milk replacements" like first milks, so this is how companies spend their marketing budget.
I was told the same as Liz and that my little girl should stay sma pro 1 till she's a year old
Yes until they can have cows milk.
I was told in our NCT course that the follow on milk isn't allowed to be 'better' than the first stage, so you end up switching for something that actually has slightly less just because of the marketing! We were advised to stay on stage 1 until regular cows milk.
You can switch if you want to but there’s not much difference between stage 1 and 2 and stage 2 is only made as they are legally not allowed to advertise a breast milk alternative☺️

My HV said that follow on milk is the same as first milk it’s just a marketing scheme so that they can advertise the milk. First milk formula isn’t allowed to be advertised as a scheme to encourage breastfeeding xx
Health visitor advised us the same as above, follow on milk is a gimmick and to just carry on using first milk
Follow on milk has less vitamins and minerals than first stage . As baby would be weaning and getting them from food .
I always kept 3 of mine of 1 stage until 1 year .
