So I’m now 41+2 and yesterday I went for a midwife appointment where they did a sweep and I was 1-2cm dilated.
They offered to book me in for an induction today but I declined and wanted to see if I could go into labour naturally after having a sweep. So far nothing… not had any braxton hicks or contractions at all during my pregnancy. Only period like cramps!
I’m having to go back to the hospital daily for a CTG to check on baby. They were all fine and happy at today’s appointment.
We’ve been put on the waiting list to go in to have my waters broken at the hospital and start the induction process. A call that they’ve said can come at anytime so be ready for it.
I’ve got another CTG and sweep appointment tomorrow afternoon if we don’t get called in beforehand to break my waters.
I’m am still in denial about the fact I will have a baby at some point this week. I’m feeling really overwhelmed and my partner is being as supportive and encouraging as he can be. Honestly, he’s been incredible and I cry every time I sit and think about how supportive he is.
But I’m just exhausted already, especially with this heat and the thought of it all is freaking me out. I don’t feel ready at all to become a parent and I’m worried that feeling like this is going to result in me having a stressful birth for me and baby.

I’m happy to have the sweeps as I’ve read that it can help start labour without having a medicated induction.
Baby is still fine and happy but they do keep stressing that my placenta won’t work as effectively once I’m 10 days over due date.
It’s hard to know what the right thing to do is 🥲

I could of written this exact post from a feelings perspective. I'm also 41+2 today. I'm booked for induction tomorrow and plan the ring up and decline and move onto a monitoring plan in the hope baby arrives before 42 weeks.

I’ve copied something I’ve written on another post but thought it could be interesting for you. In my opinion if you’re happy and healthy and your happy baby’s okay then why try to force something to start when it’s not ready to. Obviously it’s completely up to you and it’s your body and baby but please don’t feel forced into doing something you’re not sure on! Induction is a cascade of intervention xx
there’s actually research to suggest this isn’t always the case and it can deteriorate earlier/later than 42 weeks… there isn’t some magic switch that gets turned off once 42 weeks hit. If someone decided not to get induced once they hit 42 weeks then they should be offered increased monitoring to check baby’s all okay and that blood flow through the placenta is still all good.
There’s an interesting podcast episode that goes deeper into the myth around it all too 😊.
