Cleaning baby girl’s private part after the poop

Hi all, first time mom to a baby girl here. I was wondering how do you properly clean the baby’s perineal area after having bowel movement with poop going everywhere. Do I have to wash her by water (mini bath) after every poop or wiping down thoroughly with water wipes is enough? I’m worried she gets UTI or wiping can irritate her sensitive skin. Also do you use soap during bath to clean the perineal area or just water is enough. Thank you 😊

I used to be worried about that also but the vagina is self cleaning so if you couldn’t get it all, it’ll push out the stuff. I thought uti was from poop in vagina but it’s actually poop in the urethra. So that’s why the day to wipe down. Just clean as best as you can & the vagina will self clean anyway. Her next diaper change, you’ll even see a bit of poop on the diaper possibly from what you couldn’t reach. As far as using soap, sometimes I use such a tinyyyy bit but mostly just for the bum, I’ll use more.

Wipes are enough during diaper changes just clean very well. I’ve used soap to wash perineal area with my girl I know some who don’t. If she has sensitive skin like my daughter they do make wipes for sensitive skin.

I personally just make sure I wipe very well and always keep an eye out for any signs of irritation! If it’s a really bad diaper tho where it’s EVERYWHERE I will give a bath and lightly wash with hypoallergenic baby wash :) also using proper creams/ointments when she does have light irritation does help wonders as well. 10 months and she’s never had an actual full blown rash or anything!

Wipes are just fine unless it’s about and water would be easier! Babies are truly only eating milk and if you started solids purées. It’s not as bad as out poop so that’s a +. Baby soap is typically really gentle so that’s all up to personal suggestion. We typically clean around but never trying to clean in between the lips with soap.

I found when she was really little, using cotton wool and water was the easiest way to clean everything down there. You do need to part the skin and gently wipe/make sure it’s clean.

A very mild unscented baby soap is absolutely fine to wash her with or just water. Think it’s just preference.

And always make sure you wipe front to back and use a clean wipe each time so you don’t accidentally wipe poo in and around her vulva x

Depends on how little baby is. If under 3 months or prone to UTI I would use a water wipe at the change then a little wash before bed (just warm water and cotton pads). I gently will separate the outer bits of her labia with my finger tips and wipe gently to ensure there is no poo in her folds or creases. When she was littler (she’s one now) I would do a quick wash every night with warm water and cotton pads. Now I just use generic water wipes. I have never used soap on her privates. Obviously there is soap in the bath water but I don’t run a wash cloth down there.

I’ve always used water wipes, I did ask the doctor when we went to the 8 week check up and she said not to use fragranced wipes but water wipes are perfect xx

We would just wipe with water wipes and if she ever did get any 💩 in her labia, I would get a cotton bud that was soaked with water and just very VERY gently wipe it out with that, it always worked for us (obviously you do not need to put the cotton bud in as such, just gently use it to wipe the labia)

Baby wipes always worked well enough for us. Just clean as best you can, start front and work your way back. As has been said above, the vagina is self-cleaning so no need to get too detailed, just get the outer bits and what you can see. You don't have to be conservative with wipes. When in doubt use a fresh one.

We'll wash bum and private area during baths, but haven't needed to do much more than that. Never had even a whisper of a rash or UTI and going on 9 months.

I dunno if it helped but the hospital recommended using zinc cream once in awhile. It's expensive but it does dry her out well if there's too much moisture in the diaper and seems to keep any minor irritation down. My husband's rule of thumb was always: "if it's dry, keep it wet; if it's wet, keep it dry."

I use water wipes and it’s bad enough I’ll do a mini bath just soaking the booty

In a baby care class I took, the nurses advised gently separating the labia majora and wiping with just a baby wipe to clean the poop out. We normally do a bath every 2-3 days unless it was a really bad blowout then we’ll do an extra bath. In the beginning we only used water for baths and just recently at 5 1/2 months I started adding a little bit of unscented baby soap to her bath water

I only use wipes but I make I part the vagina so I can properly clean

Thank you girl mamas for all the responses. So helpful. ❤️ I now feel more comfortable cleaning her with wipes or water soaked cotton.

My baby poops a lot 😂😂😂, and it takes like a whole pack of wipes to clean her.I’m always home with her so whenever she go I just give her a mini bathe and then look if there’s any trap in the vagina.
