Inducing labour early?! What are my rights?
I’m 37 weeks on Saturday.
I’ve been in triage twice this month, once for reduced movements and the last being at the weekend for contractions.
I was told I’m in early labour but my cervix remains closed, so don’t understand how I’m in early labour?
I have a complex medical history and osteoarthritis in my hips (I wasn’t aware of this pre pregnancy otherwise I wouldn’t have planned to have children knowing how bad the pain is)
Anyhow, my health complications aside the pregnancy has been on a normal pathway despite being consultant led. They’re not concerned about the pregnancy or baby, or really about me other than for delivery where a plan is in place.
I’m struggling with severe pain that only oramorph helps, which I can’t be prescribed during pregnancy. I had this in hospital which was a god send.
I feel extremely fed up, I can hardly walk, I’m in agony and no signs of labour seem near other than on and off contractions which I guess are braxton hicks?
I’ve been told I can’t have an earlier delivery than 39 weeks, do I have no rights whatsoever to ask for earlier than this?! I’m seriously struggling and my mental health is starting to take a massive toll.

I'm not sure on rights or anything. But I suffer with ehlers danlos (which sometimes can be fine in pregnancy) mine hasn't and I've been using crutches from about week 16. But from the 1st midwife appointment they pretty much said they wouldn't let me past 38/39. My problems have got progressively worse I'm on bed rest as I can't move well and pain relief barely helps. Apart from my pain I've had a healthy pregnancy but I at my birth plan with the consultant said I didn't want to go further than 38 due to this pain. It got worse and they booked me in for an induction at 37 weeks on the dot. I'm only telling you this as your obviously in a similar boat so I would speak to someone and request an earlier Induction, especially if baby is healthy. I personally couldn't go on any longer than that, I feel selfish but sometimes you've got to do what's best for you. If you want to message about this don't hesitate and sorry if this didn't help much, was just trying to let you know my experience!
Unfortunately in England legally you have no right to demand treatment. You can ask and drs may oblige but you have no statutory right to just get whatever treatment you ask for no matter how much evidence you have to support your claims/needs/wants
I'm sorry you're going through this..I know how it feels to be in constant pain. You can request a c section which will usually be done in week 39 but not sure about being induced for a natural birth. Good luck!
I’ve had an horrible pregnancy with health issues that they need to investigate after baby is born. She’s on the 5th percentile so obvs a worry too but I’m asking for a 38week section as I’m too stressed that if it gets delayed or cancelled then it will be 40weeks and I honestly can’t deal with it
