Any medication to improve speech?

I have an 8 yo autistic daughter. She is minimal verbal. I tried dextro medicine even though she learnt a few words , she struggled to sleep and got itchy. Has anyone tried new OTC medicine for speech and succeeded?.

Over the counter. I started my kiddo on Maxi Omega-3 and
Hyia multi vitamin and it has helped him!

Uh hi… an actually autistic person here, there’s no detox or medication that will help an autistic person improve their speech over night. Please consider offering use of AAC boards for intermediate immediate communication & continued exposure to the words & phrases you’d ideally like her to learn & use more frequently & fluently.

Also following (or even better, getting an appointment with) speech language pathologists is really helpful too. (:

Thank you! Will try it.

Thanks. She really didn't like communication boards or pecs or even devices. I feel like she is not interested in learning to talk. All she says is what she wants to eat and stim. She is always stim( shaking hands with meaningless sounds or jargons) She is in speech therapy, OT and ABA therapy right from age 2 still no improvement except for what "I want" . In all these therapies they make her memorize answers for a set of questions. She memorizes and answers and they mark the goal as achieved. I am not sure what's the point? I expect to think and talk beyond what she wants.

yeah aba therapy doesn’t always work very well, not all aba is created equally. A lot focus on a rigid goal based structure like your experience has been, they just go by the guidelines from textbooks, and are attempting to teach masking / more palatable communication for those around the child instead of finding the methods of communication that feel nonexhaustive to the child in question. Has your team ever suggested introducing sign language? It does require learning on both ends (parental & children) & does take some time, but it’s absolutely another option if she’s never taken to communication boards.

Your daughter absolutely has thoughts, she just hasn’t found a non-exhaustive way of communicating them effectively.

This last part is from personal experience here; When you feel continually unheard or misunderstood sometimes you learn it’s less exhausting & disappointing to just hold your tongue unless otherwise necessary.

Do you feel like her therapist is doing a good job? Do they try different methods to see what works for her? If they are doing the same thing over and over and it's not working, maybe she needs a new therapist.
