Nudity and toddler boys

I have a boy turning 2 tomorrow
When I’m having a shower and he walks in he just stares at my body parts I can see his mind curious.

I told him my boobs are called ‘ mama’ but now he touches his nipples and calls them mama too 😭😭

When my husband also takes a shower he just also stares at him too so he has now locked the door because I know they are innocent but I just don’t want a situation where out there in the world he thinks it’s normal for a stranger to maybe flash or whatever

I’m not sure but I will be glad to hear about your thoughts mums.

Also he plays with his little friend also the time and giggles I’m guessing because of how it feels

Sigh 😩 don’t know if I’m overthinking everything

I don’t know what’s best but I get changed and bathe in front of my August girl and will my May boy she points to my body parts and can label them (but often calls my belly my bum, maybe because it’s as fat as it haha) my thinking was I never wanted her to feel shame with any of her body parts and be able to tell me if something hurt or whatever. As she grows up I will teach her the pants rule. She follows me and watches me on the toilet too because I didn’t want her to feel shame or self conscious about toileting too but she still laughs when she farts ha. I don’t know what’s best to do because my August baby was my first but that’s what I do and my thinking behind it x

It’s all natural, we are teaching our son what a willy is and have started handing him a sponge to clean himself. He is also learning the different between male and female. It’s weird to us because we’ve been taught it’s shameful or private etc but kids have to learn anatomy etc and they learn that from us. I wouldn’t worry and just try not to make it weird 😁

My son is the same, it is so so important for us to teach them the proper names of our body parts. My just turned 2 year old knows what and where his ‘penis’ is and when he points to me when I’m getting dressed I tell him that’s mummy’s vulva. It’s totally normal for him to play with his penis - I just remind mine that if he wants to do it to go in his room! X

I think first you need to teach him the correct names for body parts.

There’s nothing wrong with being naked infront of your child at that age - I still remember walking in on my parents showering (not so much my dad, but definitely my mum), I’ve never once thought it was OK to flash people…perhaps if they were naked at inappropriate times it might be different.

It’s also normal for him to explore his own body, just maybe encourage him to do it in private as he gets older

The curious stage means it’s time for them to stop seeing the nakedness. Use their own body parts to tell them what things mean. Children can start at this age to begin wanting to be curious with each other. There’s just something nakedness does to the brain hence the curiosity.

Mine now knows when it’s time for shower he waits out the door to have conversation with me till I finish. It’s all about how u raise them now

Single mum here no choice but to let my boy see me in showers and baths haha.

As long as you explain that only mama and dada can be naked when he is around any anyone is no safe it’s fine.

Kids are very curious about everything. It’s better they know the real words for body parts. I explain to mine that boobs and vagina are girls and willy is boys. He understands that. There a lot smarter than we think. X

them seeing it by mistake is different than purposely walking around naked. I think that’s weird. But as you said everyone is different

walking around naked def no
But if it’s shower/bath and then getting dressed it’s fine

you don’t have to sexualise nakedness? A naked body is a naked body and nothing to be embarrassed about nor should it be a taboo topic? If a child expresses that they’re uncomfortable with being naked around you or vice versa then of course it’s time for privacy but why shame them for it before they feel that way?

Avatar

hard agree! I will give my child the tools to tell me any issues but I also refuse to live a life in fear of predators

Avatar

sexualise ? If a child gets to an age where they become curious and just stare at the boobs and private part then that’s their brain already doing the curiosity for them. Teach them about body parts using their own. If you don’t sexualise body then let them see you naked till they are adults!

Avatar

curiosity about something different doesn’t mean it’s a sexual curiosity. My son isn’t pointing to a cow’s willy because he’s aroused by it 😂 well I hope not at least 😂😂😂

My little boy shows very little interest in mine or his body private parts . I don’t hide away from walking around with no clothes on whilst I’m getting dressed because why make a big deal of it as if it’s something abnormal? Of course when he becomes older I will be more conscious as to what’s appropriate for his age as I know he will become uncomfortable seeing his mum naked getting dressed but I think he’s far too young to feel that way. Each to your own as others have said I just think it’s innocent curiosity and nothing more than

It's important to understand that toddlers' curiosity about nudity is natural and normal. By not making these things taboo, we help our children develop a positive and healthy view of their bodies. When we make nudity a taboo, it can create negative feelings and unhealthy attitudes in children as they grow up. If children are taught that their bodies are something to hide or be ashamed of, they may start to feel embarrassed about their natural curiosity or appearance. This can lead to low self-esteem and a negative body image. When nudity is treated as something secretive or inappropriate, children might become confused about what’s normal. This can cause anxiety around their bodies and natural processes, making them feel uncomfortable in normal situations. If nudity is overly sexualized from a young age, children might develop a skewed understanding of their bodies and others'. Instead of seeing bodies as natural, they might associate them with shame or inappropriate thoughts.

children get curious regardless of whether they see you naked? They do not have the ability to sexualise whatever they are doing out of curiosity because they are children - unless they are unfortunately exposed to it one way or another. Being naked in front of your child will not spark some sexual curiosity in them, just a natural curiosity about their bodies and other people’s.

I get dressed in front of my boy because I don’t have a choice, he doesn’t really show much interest. He showers at night with his dad & sometimes he shows interest and sometimes doesn’t. Like he’s a literal baby/toddler he has no clue how to sexualise anything 🤦
