I need some advice. My toddler is in full toddler mode. Not listening, screaming, slamming and throwing stuff. I don’t know how to discipline him. Any and all advice is appreciated

Girl, same. Not always proud of it but I ignore the tantrums until she calms down. Then I talk to her about them. It’s not always easy because mine likes to melt on to the floor or dirt for her tantrums. I have to resist the urge to pick her up. I don’t know if what I am doing is working but everyone I have talked to says don’t give in

I definitely try to ignore his tantrums also! My husband wants to go the old school discipline route when he doesn’t listen and I dont agree with it, but he says that’s why he’s respectful.. 🤦🏻♀️

Girl , we have the same toddler ?😂 Mine goes full hulk mode , what I usually do if he starts screaming is take him somewhere secluded and just sit and let him tire himself out and when he’s done with his show I talk to him and allow him to live life again .
When he starts to throw things I get a little more interactive with him . I pick up whatever he threw and tell him NO, and if he does it again I put him in his room and close the door until he comes to his senses and then I tell him to clean up his mess . I don’t like spanking , but I do and would only spank in cases where he’s repeatedly doing something that could harm him or someone else . Ex- He would get so mad and take it out in his order brother of 4 years old and scratch his face or wherever he got a hold of . He got a good spanking for the times he’s done it and now wouldn’t dare to scratch his face again. Discipline is needed , kids tend to listen more when you are calm as well so always try and talk to them calmly after.

I have four kids in total and they all have their on little personalities I no that some days I be ready to do some WWE shiii on they a$$ they don’t be listening and my five year old she is me 🙌hands down but dang this is a lot

today drained me 😣

PS. No hate on your hubs at all, but you are right about spanking. Many many studies have proven it is not helpful and can be harmful. Some kids “turned out fine” but it can really do a lot of damage mentally and emotionally.
It affects a lot of kids’ development.
They need us to develop and model self-calming skills and to teach them those skills at their age level. ❤️

What’s worked best for us is:
• 1-2-3 system, 3 warnings & then time out (2 minutes sitting at the table) or loss of activity/toy. This worked pretty fast, now he usually stops after first warning
• allow the feeling, not the behavior. It’s fine to be mad and cry but you don’t get to lash out.
• simple redirect (usually when we’re out), ask if he can count his fingers or spell words on nearby signs

So many helpful tips and advice. Thank you for sharing!!

Give them time to calm down and then redirect their attention. You can always discuss it with them later. It's completely normal for toddlers—they're still learning how to communicate.
