I can’t take the pain anymore. I have two herniated disks in my back (hospital told me) and the pain is shooting down my left hip and leg. I can’t sleep, it hurts to walk and I’m just miserable. Tylenol, Motrin, naproxen none of it works.
Went to my doctor and he gave me a prescription for an X-ray. Where the fuck do I go and get an X-ray????? He gave me muscle relaxers and steroids. It’s been 3 weeks. I stopped taking the muscle relaxers day 3 because they didn’t do anything but make me tired so what’s the point of putting something into my body that isn’t doing shit anyway. The steroids didn’t help. Doctor said no way a healthy woman in her 30s has herniated disks unless she was in a car accident. The cat scan from the hospital shows I have two- l1-2. He thinks it’s sciatica flare up. This has been since May 30th. He wants me to get an X-ray and if it doesn’t show anything then an mri. WHERE DO I GET AN X-RAY? I can’t take this pain anymore. I feel fucking useless. I want to call my doctor and demand a pain killer but then he’s going to think I’m a friggen drug addict.
Does anyone have herniated disks or even sciatica that can recommend anything to get rid of this pain????? It was starting to finally settle so I started back at the gym just doing walking on the treadmill and I completely fucked myself back into extreme pain…. FROM WALKING.

Hi! In my late 20's I had a crisis with my sciatica nerve, the pain that I felt was horrible! It was from the tip of my finger to my legs and was a result of many falls, since I was a kid, teenager and part of my early 20's. My doctor sent me to get an X-ray and thanks to that he could see where I hurt my lower back and also the nerve. He prescribed me some medicine for two weeks (the 1st one for pain, the 2nd one to relax the muscle) and the rest was maintaining my weight (I'm 5'6 and regularly I weigh between 130 to 134 pounds) and exercising. I remember I used to do yoga poses that helped me a lot: reclined butterfly stretch. Last year I had a baby and in my whole pregnancy I never had sciatica nerve pain. Have you tried to get a 2nd opinion?
I just went and got the xray. I made this post shortly after waking up and I was enraged I woke up in pain again. So I apologize for my foul language.
I walked into the hospital and said I need an xray and it was actually quite simple. I’m not sure why in my brain I was making it more difficult. The X-ray tech told me this isn’t going to show any herniated disks… X-rays are for bones but it is a good place to start. Although we already have a start with the cat scan so she wasn’t understanding why Dr wanted an X-ray.
I was prescribed a steroid and muscle relaxers for 2 weeks. The steroid I took fully and am done with it. The muscle relaxer I was told to take at bedtime… but I still woke up in excruciating pain so I didn’t see the point. Also within 2 hours of taking it I was completely knocked out. So I have many of those left. I just didn’t feel it necessary to take something that wasn’t benefiting me in any way.
I would like to call my doctor and let him know I’m still in terrible pain, but I’m a chicken and afraid he’s going to get upset I waited so long to get the xray. (August 8th I got the prescription). So I think I’m just going to wait for them to call me with the xray results and inform them then.
My fiance thinks I’m walking funny to make up for the pain which could actually be causing it to worsen. All I know is I have an extremely high pain tolerance. I birthed a 9.5 pound baby naturally and I rather do that again then deal with this. Atleast with that I know there’s an end in sight. This is just constant and if I move the wrong way I’m getting an electrocution feeling down past my knee cap. Ugh 😤😤😤
Also- extremely weird but the only time I’m not in pain is during sex? Unless I’m on top then it hurts. Otherwise it’s literally the only time I’m pain free. Maybe because I’m being stretched so the pressure is off that nerve? Either way I’m driving my fiancé crazy with it. Poor man can’t keep up.

I have 2 obliterated disc and 2 herniated disc ... spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease and arthritis in my spine... I'm only 38. Your doctor needs their head examined. My pain mgmt Dr gave me gabapentin... but do your research on it first... it's a doozy. I have also done 6 or 7 injections into my spinal canal to alleviate some of the pain and pressure... before the 1st injection I couldn't even walk without a cane or walker.... now I'm caring for chickens and going shopping ... I would advise to see a different doctor

Aryn is correct. You need a different doctor and gabapentin is good. They usually start you off low dose, and increase as you get used to it. My husband has herniated discs and has suffered on and off for years. Best advice I can tell you is to stop sitting down. Walk a set amount each day and increase it over time. It can heal, but you have to be hyper aware of movements going forward. One wrong move can put you out of commission again for days. Also, use ice, not heat.
I called my doctor, told him I’m still in pain. He said to up the muscle relaxer to three times a day until Saturday 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I’m not doing it, why so I can be zonked? Absolutely not.

I have herniated discs, spinal stenosis so bad I applied for disability when I was 27 only to be told no bc I was "too young". The only thing that worked for me long term was getting the pinched nerve cauterized and even that only lasted a year and ultimately what's helped me the most has been losing weight but I still get hot discs where I'm out for a week
I just wanted to give an update. Still in excruciating pain. I got my full ct scan results from the hospital and it said
1. Spinal canal stenosis is seen
2. Mild discogenic disk disease
3. Large left disk herniation
No clue what any of that means but I did go to a spine and back surgeon today finally. He put me on an anti inflammatory, and tramadol. He tried to push for gabapentin but I refused. I didn’t even want the tramadol until he said it could be a 2 week wait for the injection. I go on the 8th of October for the injection. I’m super scared but I’m so sick of this pain. If the injection doesn’t work they will talk about surgery. I am way past the 12 week “it will heal on its own” phase although the doctor said he has had patients that take a year to heal.
