Hi ladies, I currently receive universal credit as we couldn’t afford childcare so I had to stop working after maternity leave until my daughter qualifies for the 15 hour free nursery funding (partner works full time just doesn’t earn enough to cover everything as wage isn’t high).
I just wanted to ask, when I do get a job does anyone know if I would still be entitled to some universal credit? I understand it wouldn’t be the same amount but as I could only work part time I wont be earning enough money to cover our rent food etc even with partners job. Im just trying to work it all out, can you still receive it if you both have jobs as long as you aren’t earning enough?

You can use a benefit calculator like www.entitledto.co.uk or www.turn2us.org.uk that will give you an idea of what you could be entitled to based on what you both earn once you get a part time job.

So UC will deduct 55p for every £1 you make, no matter what. Unfortunately due to the new system, anything you earn under the UC bracket goes into deductions, my partner and I found this out the hard way after his salary meant we were entitled to housing benefits, but that same salary was used to deduct a whopping £600 which took all of it.
