I had a midwife appointment today which resulted in a trip to the hospital.
It turns out my baby is too big for 33 + weeks and is coming in at 6lbs 7oz.
I have an appointment to discuss with a consultant in 2 weeks by which point I will be 35 + weeks.
Has anyone had a baby that comes in over the “safe” weight or had a similar experience? What was the outcome? Did you have to have a c section and at what week was your baby delivered?

I would suggest waiting for the next growth scan. I've had 3 already this pregnancy and the measurements are so variable. At 28 weeks baby was on the 86th centile and at 32 he was on the 76th. They are really unreliable added to which it will depend on the day as to which sonographer you have.
thanks, but I wasn’t even suppose to be in for a growth scan, it was a routine midwife appointment and anything over the 97th percentile is dangerous, so they can’t ignore it or wait for another scan. The NHS have booked the consultant for two weeks regardless, I’m more looking for information on anyone who has been over 97% and had their labour/ delivery altered because of it 🙂

I'll have scan next week on 32weeks, but on last scan 28weeks, baby was 80% percentile, they didnt say any concern apparently
anything over 97% is a risk, anything below is fine

Totally understand. My point was that they will probably arrange another scan and the outcome might be different. You'll just have to wait and see. I was just trying to put your mind at ease in that the scans are often inaccurate so I wouldn't want them doing anything unnecessarily based on one scan alone. However if baby remains large they'll either discuss early induction or c-section but unlikely it will be before 37/38 weeks

My babies been 99th this whole time I’m thinking C-section at the moment (34 weeks tmro he was 6lb 11 estimated on Tuesday)

Thanks for the info, I didnt know!

My baby was measuring 97th percentile for the last month or so of my pregnancy in growth scans. I went for an induction at 40+2 as I wanted to wait until I was full term but the induction failed and I had a c section at 40+6. My baby was 99th percentile born, she was 10lb 14. In my case the scans were correct however I know a lot of peoples have been incorrect so it’s really hard to tell. My baby was perfectly healthy though so don’t worry about that, just because they are measuring big it isn’t necessarily a bad thing just comes with increase risks which can be managed x

Just had a thought I should’ve put in my earlier comment,, my consultant said it’s highly likely my baby will get stuck because he’s such a chonker but I’m above the 99th so it might be entirely different for you still (hence why I’m debating a c section)

Hi I’m in the same situation went for scan today 32+2 measuring 5 pound with a lot of fluid so doing finger prick test for a week due to suspected diabetes. Really struggled with getting the information, from what I’ve read it’s not a massive concern but it’s put the fear into me. Sorry I don’t have any advice but seen your post the other day and came back to see if there was any advice x

Exactly the same thing happened to me today, also 33 weeks and 97th percentile. I have to go back in the morning for an oral glucose tolerance test x

I’m currently being offered induction as baby boy is at 97 percentile at week 36. However my gynecologist and midwives and hypnobirthing say different things. On one hand shoulder dystocia is only in 3 % of bigger babies. The likelihood of shoulder dystocia increases if you have an epidural.
You are more likely to need an epidural if you have an induced labour because contractions are way more painful and unnatural.
My midwife says that Size of Baby has nothing to do with it and they can’t measure precisely nowadays. I’m worried about the size but I am also afraid of a failing induction which can be a three day thing. I’m trying Accupuncture this week.

I'd trust gynecologist more personally

Hey! I’m 38+5 weeks today and had a growth scan yesterday where they said baby is in the 93rd percentile but his tummy is measuring in the 97th so I need to make a decision on whether I do nothing, be induced or book in for a c section. What did you ladies do in the end to have your little ones arrive safely and so you were looked after? 🙏🏼 really struggling with what to do
