Hi guys! My family just visited for a week. I’m sorry to say it did not go well, my dad held my baby once while I went pee, and his girlfriend hardly did anything. She went out to eat with friends twice there were dirty bottles that I was struggling with on the countertop. She knows how to wash them children. She didn’t touch them. I was trying to get everything done. And ultimately they left because “” I was so stressed as if it’s my fault. Insert 🤯here.

I don’t get why people think that we’re robots.

I absolutely get this! 💯
My Mom just doesn't show up for me at all. My work travel has increased substantially (temporarily), so I've been gone alot leaving my Wife with our twins. We are struggling to get time alone, struggling to get a second just to manage ourselves, and she just calls, asks stupid questions, and gets off the phone. I wholly understand that these are not her children, but before they were born, she sold us a dream about how involved she would be. We made her a bedroom, an office and got what ever else she asked for. Only for her to be a "Facetime" grandparent.

If I had to guess, this dynamic sounds like father and son assume it’s a woman’s duty to take care of all of these things and they only help the son because they don’t think it’s his job anyway. It also sounds like perhaps the girlfriend is farther removed so maybe she feels awkward taking over another women’s household perhaps. Saying they are leaving because you are stressed is crazy. Did you try asking for help? I know I grew up in a family dynamic where the men acted Ike this too and I struggled to ask for help and was kind of expecting people to offer, like I would. After I started expressing I needed help to my husband, then getting angry when he pushed back, things started to change. It took years though of me learning to express and hold a boundary for myself of not giving in and doing it all myself. I had to let the chores go undone for a long time before he would do them. If he said he’d do something I would let it be until he did. Therapy together helped as well.
