Mom/Daughter relationship

Does anyone look up to their mom & call their moms their best friend? Like do you all know that your mom has your back no matter what? If so, was it always like this? Or was there a rough patch? Tell me everything.

I have 3 girls & they’re obsessed with me which i love. I never had the best relationship with my mom after the age of like 8 something changed. & I definitely don’t feel like she has my back today. & I’m scared my girls won’t love me when they’re older

My mom has always had ny back, always been present and involved in my life, she has always been someone I can count on good bad or ugly. We've always been the best of friends. As a child she would make it clear as much of a friend that she is, she is ultimatley my parent. We have never had a rough patch in our relationship, as she has always been respectful of my autonomy. Now that im having a daughter of my own, im hoping for a similar relationship that i've always had with my mother, with my daughter and of course my son too. I am an only child idk if that made a difference

this comment made my cry. That’s beautiful! I also hope for a similar relationship ♥️ it’s good to know that it’s possible to never have rough patches. We’ve had so many, my mom & I 😞

Personally, it's a fear of mine! My daughter is almost 10 months old and I'm hoping we have a great relationship always. You're not alone here!

As an adult, my mom is my best friend for sure. Growing up she was always there and made sure to know that I was loved. In high school, we hit a rough patch (I wanted to go out, party, etc) but it got better once I went to college.

My mom is one of my best friend other than my husband. They're the two people that always have my back. I've always told my mom she is my best friend since I was little. She's never once made me feel like an inconvenience, patience of a saint, always there when I need her. Never had a rough patch.

@Alexandra Awww. Similarly, I was v close to my mum as a small kid, but not after my parents split up when I was 10. I eventually ended up moving in with my dad rather than my mum, and then I barely saw my mum until I was about 16. In fact, I think I went about 2 yrs not seeing her at all. We have a mixed relationship now. She tries a lot with my daughter, but I wouldn't say we're close.

I hope that I have a better relationship with my daughter (and my 2nd daughter to come). She's like a little mini-me and she's always telling me she loves me. Like someone above said - my greatest fear is that changing.

wow… that’s INCREDIBLE. I always feel like an inconvenience

The relationship with my mom is better in adulthood. I feel like we are friends and I call her almost everyday to see how she’s doing or tell her how I’m doing. It wasn’t always like this though. As a teenager I really rebelled against my parents. And then when I got pregnant at 17 when my mom found out she cried then ignored me for 3 months. Eventually she got over it and supported me. I continued to go through college with my baby and graduated and got accepted to the university of my dreams. My mom then later told me how proud of me she was and that I’ve been a great mom. Since then she’s been there for me through all the ups and downs of motherhood and adulthood. My daughter is now 12 and I just gave birth to my twins last year she’s very involved with seeing her grandchildren. Shes one of the biggest supports of me besides my partner.

I think it’s normal to struggle with your children and go through rough patches. My mom was an immigrant and had her own trauma she struggled with

My mum was amazing! She was always there never made me feel less than even when I thought I had disappointed her she always lifted me up and made me feel like I was everything!! She filled my sister and I with so much confidence to take on the world and be our authentic selves and to be resilient. She was an amazing woman and I sadly lost her before I became a mum myself. I named my first daughter after her and she really does have my mums heart - she is 10 now and is the sweeter smartest most caring girl. I really do hope I can live up to just half of what my mum was to me.

I think the fact that u are having these concerns shows that ur daughters are blessed to have you and you will be intentional about maintaining that close bond. Don’t be fearful just lead with love and from this post u clearly have soo much love for ur girlies! Enjoy this journey with them 💕💕💕

I’m an only child to a single mum and it’s always been the two of us against the world. Yes, we’ve been through rough times as I became a rebellious teenager but never changed how close we are.

thank you so much for this comment. I am in tears. Must be the postpartum hormones. According to my mom, when I’m emotional, it’s always “hormones” & never just human emotions 😆 I think I need therapy. But thank you for saying this. Im hopeful & scared but I’m gona try my best to always maintain this closeness I have with my girls 🙏🏻 they’re only 4, 1, & 7 weeks

Avatar

yes! This was always my fear so that’s why I never wanted girls & God blessed me with 3 😆 I love them to pieces but I’m scared

Avatar

@Alexandra I hear ya, haha I've been going to a therapist to try and mitigate this because it's been one of my biggest worries!

aw hun u will be just fine! Bless u! Therapy is never a bad idea so go for it when ur ready. Ur girls are still babies so enjoy every second and cross each bridge when u get to it. Wishing u all the best 💕💕💕

Mom and i are good. Always have been. She's quite open minded and always supportive. She's really easy going and very easy to get along with. I think personality traits help make the difference, as we change when we age... so either or both having great personality aspects can assist with that,i believe
