My husband has type 1 diabetes, which he usually controls well, but since our baby was born his blood sugar is often really high at night. I think it's due to waking up multiple times in the night, and not having time for exercise any more. Are there any mums here who have diabetes or family members with it, experiencing the same thing? Any tips for keeping blood sugar stable while taking care of a baby??

In the same position as you with my husband who has type 1. Broken sleep is definitely playing a part to his higher sugar levels overnight. We also have a 2.5 year old, so have been in this boat before and it does ease up as sleep improves, but not easy whilst in it. I’m no expert at all and wouldn’t be able to comment on managing the levels via diet etc. but a couple of other things we’ve found to help
- Make sure we’re organised and plan our exercise schedules for the week ahead otherwise it doesn’t happen for neither of us basically (i.e. I’ll mark up when I’m hoping to do a class / run etc. in our shared calendar and vice versa). Sometimes we have to change plans but having it there gives us something to aim for
- Split the night wakes in half (i.e. saves you both waking at the same time for the baby if you agree one wakes and sees to baby first half of the night and the other the second half)
Hope things start to settle ASAP for you guys X
thank you, sorry you've experienced the same but glad it's not just us. Those are great tips x
