Pregnant and on antidepressants

Hi,
I'm hoping to get pregnant with a 2nd child but I am now on antidepressants (Paroxetine 20mg) and I'm wondering if I can stay on the meds or will I have to stop them?
I will of course speak to my GP but wondering if any mamas have experience with this situation.
I've really found a great stability with those meds which is probably also why I feel ready for a 2nd child but I'm afraid if I need to stop them completely I might struggle.
Any feedback would be great please:)

They would keep you on it most likely. There’s risk with any medication they’ll go over that with you but it sounds like the benefits outweigh the risks! I’d be more worried stopping it

See I was on sertraline for my anxiety and mild depression before I got pregnant. When I got pregnant I spoke to the doctor and he said only if i felt well enough should I stop taking them. It’s something like 1/2000 babies get affects from it. So if you think you’ll be better on it then stay on it but defo ask the stats for that particular one affecting baby. I did end up stopping taking it because I’d had just lost a baby prior so anything that i could do to avoid that was a must. I was also in therapy so that helped take the edge off. Just trust your instinct really and ask doctors advice! 🫶🏻🫶🏻

When I started trying I got switched to escitalopram as it was much safer for the baby than the one I was on before that so you don't have to come off completely. Some doctors/nurses encourage that but my midwife says it's much better to stay on when you weigh up the benefits

I am on setraline for my depression and amitriptyline for my headaches / migraines. I came off other medication when found out I was pregnant with baby. They are just keeping an eye on me

had almost identical experience with my bipolar meds! And I absolutely second a maternal health psychiatrist, they are way better qualified to handle this than any OB or GP. They can also offer additional support during the postpartum period and evaluate and treat potential PPD much more effectively.

Some are okay. I take effexor xr and thus is my third pregnancy I've taken it with out any problems. Your obgyn should let you know

had the same issue with my regular psych! She even made me sign a form just so I wouldn’t sue her if there was a medical complication with the baby! It’s crazy how poorly researched psychiatrists can be about PSYCH medications!
