Hi, yes my baby is 5 weeks old and they prescribed her gaviscon but we stopped it as it gave her very bad constipation. She was crying in pain throughout the night which she normally doesn’t do.

We’re 6 weeks PP and my little one had gavisgon from the GP for reflux. All it did was replace one problem with another ( constipation ).
I then just took matters into my own hands and cold turkey changed her formula brand. We went from aptamil to little steps SMA and she’s a different baby. I saw an instant change as well. Aptamil is very thick and had so many bubbles ( despite me stirring not shaking ect ). SMA is much thinner and has hardly any bubbles so helps massively with her reflux. Also infacol can make babies more sick and have more reflux so we stopped using that too. :) x

we’ve just been prescribed gaviscon but haven’t started using it yet. How much were you giving your baby and how often?

I’ll be honest. It says 6 sachets a day max.. but we only ever gave 2 a day, one in morning and one at night and she was so constipated I had to stop it all together. Just felt like it was replacing one problem with another. It did work to start with but then she was being just as sick and would be in clear pain.
I just switched her formula from aptamil to SMA and saw instant results. She’s been on SMA for 5 days now and hasn’t been projectile sick once and is a totally different baby. I feel really bad that I didn’t do it before because she just suffered for 5 weeks x

I'm so sorry ladies, really feel for you but yes my friend said the exact same thing! That the gaviscon just made her baby constipated 🤦🏻♀️

Hi my little one has silent reflux and was on gaviscon but like others said it caused constipation which was creating more discomfort. As you have to make up the gaviscon powder it can be very inconvenient and where baby was so small they wanted me to do half a sachet which is ridiculous to measure the powder out. So we ended up doing a sachet in the morning and night. It didn’t help so we’re now on omeprazole which is liquid form once a day. I do it before her first feed on an empty stomach and wait 15/30mins until she has a feed. She does seem much better but I can’t tell 100% as she might also be battling an allergy too
