Partner told me I’m getting fat

So today I FaceTimed my partner while I was on my lunch break at work. I heard him say ‘why is your face so round’ but I acted like I misheard to try and get him to repeat it but he didn’t and just said ‘you’re face is cute’. I then questioned him why he said my face is round and he denied it but in a joking way so I didn’t pay too much attention.

I later text him asking ‘is my face really round’ and he replied ‘no’. That’s it I didn’t think much more of it.

Just now we got into a silly disagreement, more like he got annoyed at me, and along with some other things he called me fat and said ‘you’re getting fat. Your face is fat now that’s why I said it on the phone today but I didn’t wanna repeat it and be rude. Fucking face like a circle’.

I have just gone to bed and not replied but I feel so embarrassed. For reference I’m 5’3 and 55kg. I have noticed myself that my face is a bit rounder but now I feel quite insecure about my weight. I’m not able to go gym and workout like I used to and I did want to lose a few more lbs.

That’s so hurtful. That’s just bullying. Make sure he knows that, don’t let it just sit. If you don’t have time right now, maybe he can help you make that time. But you should get in shape for yourself, not for anyone else. He did want to be rude and he definitely found a way to do it. It was very cruel and hurtful. Make sure he knows that.

I agree… and look, we all gained weight in one way or another. I gained 25kg while pregnant, I feel ashamed of my weight gain, and my partner once mentioned it to me, the difference is that one can mention it being aware of the whole process of motherhood, whether you’re in postpartum or prenatal stages. There was no need to make you feel embarrassed or ashamed. That’s not fair to you as a human being at all. Plus, one day he may gain weight or he may start lasting less time in bed than he used to, but we’re not going to mention it like that, right? Put him in his place. Damn - some men are so entitled. Not to say your man is, but I understand and feel for you.

Ummmmm 5”3 55kg is NOT overweight or fat. I don’t know if you’re freshly PP or what but you might be what they call “slim thick” which to me is not fat or overweight. I’m 5”1 49kg so you’re 2in taller and a handful of kg above me, so you’re good. Maybe the angle of your face on the FT made it look rounder, or you are fresh PP. If you do want to do weights get some for home but only do it because you want to not because someone else told you to otherwise it becomes a chore and not self care.

I am 5’5, at my lowest ive weighed 52kg, at my heaviest (first pregnancy) I weighed around 89kg (stopped after that because it was making me self conscious 🥴)
Weight fluctuates 🤷🏻‍♀️ it can be gained and lost. But that is so uncalled for my lovely. I don’t know where you are at in your baby journey (pregnant? PP?) but some weight gain shouldn’t be an issue here. I’d suggest losing a few more pounds - by dumping his ass (I joke!) but tell him that you aren’t going to stand for it and go build yourself up mama. You are amazing, awesome, strong and beautiful ❤️ keep your head up and pay his outburst no attention. If he didn’t want to be rude he wouldn’t have said it in the first place

your partner is a gigantic asshole.

I understand that can be tough, but try not to let that get to you! It seems like he might be struggling to communicate his feelings in a more constructive way. Remember, it’s important to focus on the positive and not let those arguments get you down. Your worth goes way beyond any comments!

Well I'm classified as overweight he'd call me a sasquatch! Cheeky bugger only extra weight your carrying is that entitled man child.

Don’t be hard on yourself, you’re so thin. Whatever weight you’re gaining is due to the baby. Make him feel dumb for not realizing that’s what happens when you’re pregnant…duh! He knows you’re preggo but he also knows your triggers. He only repeated and drilled it in because you pointed it out to him several times, even after he called you cute and denied it. He’s being an idiot. Tell him he’s ugly or his breath stinks and also empower yourself and say to him “stfu, I know I look good.”

55kg is NOT OVERWEIGHT AT ALL especially at your height. HE'S NUTS. I WISH I was that weight. Honestly I'm SO sorry he's said that to you. He sounds really childish

Your partner isn’t worth your time or love…. What he said is just plain nastiness… pregnant or not I’d not stand for that for. I’d get rid me if my partner was that nasty to me…. Your partner is meant to love you or treat you like that. Chin up and think about yourself x

He knew you felt insecure about it by the way you reacted on FaceTime and text. That’s not a silly disagreement he made it seem like he was complimenting you then later on insulted you to hurt you. It’s not OK and you don’t have to accept that. Disagreements are ok but attacking insecurities is purposeful.
