My midwife said at 39 they would do a sweep if I wanted so must be different in different areas.

yeah must be. I was so hoping she would say yes. ðŸ˜

I found this strange when I asked at my last midwife appt she said they don’t do them until 40 weeks… yet my VBAC consultant said they offer from 38 weeks and my SIL was also offered at 38? Super conflicting info! Although I’ve seen a few posts recently about how uncomfortable they can be so I’m starting to think that I’m ok waiting 👀😂x

I had a midwife appointment booked for 38+6 and they said no, so rebooked me for 39 (the very next day) and said yes for that day instead!

Some areas won’t offer a sweep until 40 weeks

Where I am they can only do a sweep before 40 weeks if a consultant writes in the notes they can

I actually had a chat with my midwife about this today - my trust offers at 39 weeks but will only do 3 every 48hours.
Once the 3 have been done, an induction is then automatically booked due to risk of infection, but if you have one at dead on 39 weeks, this means that induction would be booked before your due date!
She said this is why there are a lot of ‘failed inductions’ - sweeps are just done too early, which then means the inductions are too.
My midwife said it’s completely my choice as my trust would do it, but she would NEVER offer it before 40 weeks unless there was a medical reason.
Not sure if this helps anyone, but made me feel a bit better about not having one early!

I tell ya wot tho ladies... I had one wen I was in labour to try and speed it up a bit...omfg they hurt a lot!!!!. I had to stop half way.
