Biliteracy

Hi! My child is 3.5 and we are trying to build early literacy skills at home in my first language (English) and at preschool in the majority language (Swedish). I would say both English and Swedish are his first languages. His dad is a native Swedish speaker and all his family speaks swedish with him. It's harder to get more English input with me not having any family here, so I'm working with teaching him Spanish as his second language, no pressure, but want to build a strong base (Spanish is my 2nd language).

So my question is what strategies do you all use when working with teaching early reading skills? Do you just teach letters and sounds in your own language? If you can speak the other language(s) do you include those and if so, do you different. For instance, C for cat in English, K for katt in swedish. They make the same sound, but use a different letter. Stiff like that. Swedish has a tons of sounds that are so different than English! So it's very overwhelming with trying to help support reading in that language. Spanish is much similar to English when it comes to phonetics, so that seems more manageable?

What do you all think? What have you done when trying to teach your kids to read in all their languages?
