First time mom, questions about almost 6 month old

Hi all! First time mom here with an almost 6 month old, I was looking to see if other moms are in my shoes/can relate.

My boy is super energetic, meeting his milestones and is super fun to play with. We have one problem....he constantly needs to be held/be kept busy. My husband and I can never step away from him without him starting to fuss or cry. We still are in survival mode and can't seem to get our lives in order, as all of our time is focused on him. My break has been going to work part time which is bad. I also recently was dx with ADHD after giving birth to him as I was struggling mentally with handling the load.

Long story short, is your baby very attached to you? What do you do to keep them busy? Mine will only sit in a bouncer or swing for a few minutes. We put him in the play pen with the boppy supporting him up (he is almost unsupported sitter) with toys, but he seems to be getting bored now. I feel like I can never stop away from him unless it's a nap. I love that he looks to us and bonded so well with us, but it feels like 24/7 we have to entertain him. It's to the point we are at the mercy of his schedule and I feel I never take him out shopping or to the store because he's a handful and always fusses if my attention isn't solely on him. Do I need to start putting him down and letting him fuss? I'm worried im being too much of a helicopter parent and jump at any sound he has, but am.not sure if it is time ywt to let him sit on his own and let him regulate. If experienced mom's could give some advice I'd be so appreciative!

i have this same problem. i expressed my concerns to my babys doc and he told me she would grow out of it, but now shes almost a year and its almost like it got worse?

Yes this is exactly the same for me, I shower, eat and relax during her 20 minute naps. It’s hard but it’s impossible to get things done when she’s awake. I wear a carrier sometimes but it doesn’t really allow for that much productivity, maybe a little tidying up

@Gabriella my baby wont even go in a carrier. He fusses after 5 minutes lol. And he's so dang heavy, he's almost 19 lbs!

@rissa oh no! It sounds great you are bonded with baby but I'm sure mentally that is super hard on you

Yesss. All suggestions i get dont work either lol.
I make sure hes fed and a dry diaper, then i put him down to play surrounded by his toys and let him cry. lol just dont let up.
He just started calming down within the last couple weeks.

I do tummy time, jumper time, and sit up time in a rotation. He only likes his toys for a few min too but we play anyway and keep switching... then it's time for nap and we do that battle 😆

Same here, I try to walk away while she is playing for mins at the time and she is uncomfortable but that way she can get used to not seeing us all the time. I try to expose her to "being alone" which is never alone really is just that she can't see me lol and she cries but I know she is ok

Hi! Sounds like separation anxiety that baby is going through, which is completely normal. What I’ve started doing, cause our first one didn’t really have it, is just step out of the room for a few minutes at a time & then popping back in. It reassures baby that you are still there. I also let him know that “hey [baby name], mama is going to go potty/whatever you need to do & will be right back” & just pop in. Do you have any Montessori toys or toys that she can use to help with sitting up to distract her

My daughter used to have separation anxiety when I would work in my office (wfh). I kept popping back out to interact with her throughout the day while my husband was caring for her, which seemed to make it worse. Our pediatrician said to stick to a strict routine, for example set work hours, and don't pop out for breaks. It took a few days to adjust and I had to resist coming out despite her crying. But she fell into the routine eventually.

Same and I’m guilty of feeding into it 😔🥺
