Stiches after a section

I had a c section on the 3rd and had dissolvable stitches. Midwife came today (day 5) to remove the dressing and there are some stitches that aren’t properly dissolved / are on top of the skin. Feels very weird having scar exposed. Midwife didn’t seem worried about external stitches but said to ask midwife to cut them at next appt on day 10. She couldn’t do today as she came to my house. Can’t help but feel a bit worried and wondered if anyone has had similar?

I didn't notice mine until weeks later 🙃 It had all healed and I had what felt like brush bristles sticking out. I plucked them with tweezers and it didn't hurt. Just felt strange.

Im 11 days post c section, still have a few of the bigger stitches, uncomfortable but it gets better, I would worry too much I think they dissolve at different rates, my midwife said they wouldn't cut them and should just fall out on they're own - just keep it clean and dry and let it air out

I haven’t had my section yet but had an appendectomy and the same thing happened - they didn’t all dissolve. It’s completely normal :) basically anything not touching the skin won’t dissolve. I fully embarrassed myself with mine! I went to the dr all panicked that there was this bit of hardened stitch handing out. He touched it and it fell off and he said ‘all gone’ hahahhaa

Thanks everyone! Just have one weird one which is on top of scar all the way from left to right, almost looks like surgeon forgot to cut it 😂 I’m sure all ok and hopefully midwife can cut it on Friday If needed Scar felt really good when it was covered but suddenly feels less good now exposed!!

Are you all showering but not bathing yet?

I'm a nurse and often visit people in the home to remove stitches, quite often they are 'dissolvable' ones that just haven't dissolved, your midwife will be able to remove them with no issues, the body will eventually reject them anyway and they will just fall off like @Kimberley said haha
