How much have you spent getting your hair dyed at a salon?

Backstory: Today I went to a new salon in hopes that I would have my medium brown hair dyed a vivid red only to be told that it would take 8-9 hours at the rate of $75/hr. I’ve had my hair dyed like this before and the most I’ve paid is $200 and it took 4 hours. Am I crazy for thinking that close to $800 is insane?

$400 for cut and color on average with tip

$650 😭😭 some color correction, full highlights, olaplex treatment, cut

Wow that's crazy. I'm in Toronto, Canada. If you go a asian salon. I got hair cut, wash and highlights. Around $140 or so Canadian.

I don't understand why it would take that long unless they are wanting to lighten your hair. That does take a considerably amount of time.

What the heck… As someone who has had bright red hair for over a decade, the longest it takes for me is 4 hours (if they need to lighten pieces closer to my roots, I always leave a bit of root) and always under $200CAD. I also have a boat load of hair

I had my hair colored red (and I have dark Almost black hair) and it cost a little over 200 and my hair was a little longer than shoulder length

I just got mine done blonde/brown to red and it was less than $200 including tip. Took an hour and half. I haven’t even heard of changing by the hour for hair coloring.

on average 250 before tip for full highlights, cut, wash and blowout in Boston

Only crap people pay a lot 😭 I have a hair stylist I love and trust and for cut/color it’s like 75 without tip (I usually tip 20-30) and with cut/color/highlights it’s 100 without tip

Avatar

I’ve paid around $350 last time I got my hair done (was also red). That was for everything from the initial pre treatment shampoo right through to being styled for their business accounts photo.

Avatar

My cut and color is around $160 can’t remember if that is price before tip or not

Avatar

It blew my mind to hear the price/time and being in Mississippi on top of it! I used to live 40 mins outside of San Francisco and have never got a price that high! Thought it would be cheaper here but that’s four times what I would have paid in CA!

I went to my usual girl when she changed salons, and I was expecting to pay close to $300 like I did at the other 2 places she worked. She came back and told me that it was going to be almost $400 and I'm thinking, "Oh hell no" but I had already made the drive and I didn't have anywhere else to go. I had to pay half and pay the other half in 2 weeks when I got paid again.

Over 300

I’m a hairdresser and it all depends on if it’s a colour correction or not !

Omg, i didn’t realize getting your hair done was that expensive now. I just had my hair cut for the first time since I’ve had my daughter (almost two years). I’ve been growing it out and I just wanted a trim. I don’t dye my hair or do much else with it. I paid $27 and that’s including tip at great clips. I spend my money on hair products and tools.

My mom had a cosmetology license & used to own her own salon. She's always done all my hair cuts & coloring when I used to dye my hair. The one time I paid for a simple haircut was a diaster & I paid $100 including tip.

I just went blonde, fairly long hair, and it was 4 hours and exactly 345$

When you say medium brown is that a length? Medium long hair?

Avatar

my hair is just below my shoulders. I meant color wise, it’s medium brown. No color correction needed, so I really don’t know why it would take 8-9 hours??

Avatar

just do it at home lol, brown to red is easy

Avatar

I had a color correction from reddish brown to brown with highlights for 500 ish. Usually, I'll get full highlights for 225.
