Is it possible for a 2 /12 month old to be fake coughing or does he need a doctor? He’s never really coughing in my arms but when I set him down! He coughs away

2.5 month old will not be fake coughing.
Is the nose runny? Do you have a humidifier? That can help with a cough but he's little... Maybe see the pediatrician to check the lungs.

2.5 months is too young to fake a cough generally. If you set him into a sitting position, does he do it?
It's probably a good idea to get checked. It may just be mucus from a cold, it is that time of the year, but better safe than sorry

It’s 100% possible.. my son was doing that around that age too! At this age it’s normal for babies to learn to use their vocal cords and experiment with sounds including coughing! If you think it’s fake then it’s fake, no cause for concern. You’ll know when it’s a real cough trust your instinct

My 25 month old fake coughs too

Lolol. I don't know. I cough a lot so my baby has been fake coughing for awhile. He copies us. Lol

My boy fake coughs, he does it to copy me or his dad, or just for fun and attention. It is a little bit funny

My 2.5 year old fake coughed. And u can tell the difference between real n fake ones. Since it’s flu season, have Frida nose sucker, humidifier (or baby nebulizer), saline drops, baby Vicks, and infant Tylenol (ask doctor before using when under 3 months) handy just in case.

you’re right!! My sincerest apologies for responding to this post.

well I misread the post. I thought it said 2.5 year old lol

typically yes it’s very rare for him to do in while in my arms that’s why I thought maybe it was fake, I have scheduled him an appointment for tomorrow

@Jessie definitely can understand that thinking, but keep in mind that lying down vs. being held, the mucus can go back into the throat.
When mine got his first cold, and even now, he's 5.5 months, if he's stuffy or got some mucus, he coughs laying down but not while held or sitting because the mucus doesn't run back as much sitting/being held.
It's good you're getting him checked, as it could be other things too, but it's likely a cold or mucus

he has no other symptoms as of right now, is it possible it could be extra drool? He’s been eating his hands lots lately and choosing them over his sookie, he is also still acting himself

@Jessie he could be coughing on extra drool. Mines like that, too, right now, he coughs on extra drool. The doctor should be able to tell you and give you reassurances.
When mine got his first cold around 2.5 months, he started with the coughing, woke himself up at night coughing, then a couple days later got stuffy and visible mucus.
