I’m currently in hospital waiting for my induction and just wondered what everyones stories are. Midwife has said I could potentially just have my waters broken straight away instead of having the balloon but is it not better to be a certain amount of dilated first? How many cm was everyone when they had their waters broken if you had an induction and how did it progress as I want to avoid having to go on the drip

Yeah you’ve only got to be 2cm dilated to have it done c

I had 1 full round of induction then a 12 hour pessary. They broke my front waters at 1cm but my back waters had been open over 24 hours c

I had my waters broken at 2/3cm, somewhere around there. I had 3 gels, the pessary and a traction catheter to get me to that point, and then was put on the drip pretty much as soon as I had my waters broken (I had already been in hospital being induced for nearly a week at this point). Then ended up having an emergency c-section x

Is that how many cm you where? I’m just anxious as i really don’t want to end up having an emergency c section if its done too early

How come you ended up having an emergency c section if you dont mind me asking?

What’s a full round of induction? And what’s the difference between front and back waters? And after you had your waters broken did you go into labour and not have to have an emergency c section or anything? Sorry for all the questions, I’m an anxious ftm haha

yeah! So I had the balloon in first as I wasn’t far enough (take this over the pessary if you have a choice) I was in labour both my babies for 38 hours, they were both inductions and no c section needed at all! You’ll be fine!x

Went for my induction at 38 weeks and was already 2cm so had my water broken after about n 1hr of being checked in. Was a positive start to my induction but ended in emergency c section which wasn't ideal or what I wanted but still was a positive experiences x

this was exactly what i needed to hear haha thankyou so much x

how come you ended up having an emergency c section? x

I asked my consultant about this as I’m being induced for a VBAC they said they can break the waters at like 2/3cm (I had it done at 5cm with my first but that was spontaneous Labour) but I will be getting the balloon catheter to begin with to hopefully reach 4cm before they break my waters xx

I see you’re from Mansfield are you going to kings mill? X

so where you 2cm after having the balloon or before? I just don’t know if it’s an option to ask to have the balloon even if she says i am far enough to break my waters😂x

I am yes, I’m here now haha x

From what i’ve heard, is it better to reach 4 before they break my waters? Can I ask to have the balloon to help me dilate to 4 even if I am 2cm or my cervix is far enough forward and they say I can have my waters broken straight away? xx

oh bless you i’m sorry to hear that but hopefully you still had a positive experience and thankyou very much xx

no I had it before, once your 2cm it’s pretty pointless! As it only dilated you but once your waters are broke you should naturally start dilating anyway! If not, like my second baby you have the drip, but it’s honestly not as bad as you think and they increase it gradually, if it’s too much just tell them and they’ll turn it down again! Naturally induction labour is slightly more painful but you’ve 100% got this, and you’ll know when your body needs extra pain relief! Don’t be afraid to tell them how you’re feeling through out it all! You’ve got this, focus on the now and if anything changes just go with it, labour is so unpredictable so go with the now rather than panicking about the later x

thankyou so much i really appreciate it, i just felt a bit uninformed and didn’t really know who to speak to who had been through it already so this really helps! xx

message me if you need! Im only chesterfield so we’ll have the same kind of policies and whatever!

your a diamond thankyou so much x

I mean it may not make too much difference if you’re ultimately going to go on the hormone drip id just rather get that little bit further if I can before starting it cos it’s meant to be so intense. It’s worth asking if it’s something you want or are not sure about see if there’s a doctor free to discuss the options you are able to choose more freely what you want to do than they let you believe. Also if you’re already 40 weeks(?) you’ve already got a better chance of your induction being successful regardless. Good luck! 🫶🏻

Ahh i see, that makes sense! I’ve now been told that my cervix is quite far back and I may have to have the pessary instead so fingers crossed that works… my main fear is just having an emergency c section or being put to sleep at all so trying to stay positive! I’m currently 6 days away from my due date x

I had a cervix that was far back also, they still did the balloon, just takes a couple of attempts, if you’ve got a midwife willing to try definitely try, our hospital is trying to prevent doing the pessary because of how traumatic it is! x

I wasn’t induced, was meant to be but at that appointment I found out I was already in labour. my waters didn’t break on their own tho. They broke them when I was 7cm dialated and she came out with my waters

how did it go?

not to scare you if you’re having an induction but honestly horrible… nurse told me my contractions would start at a MINIMUM 20 minutes later, no more than 5 mins later they came on heavy and fast, i had my waters broken, contractions where 1-2 minutes apart and the machine was measuring i was around 8cm, i was only 3cm! because of this, baby ended up going into distress and i had to have an emergency c section… despite everything it was still a beautiful experience, all the staff where so supportive and caring, just was not what i expected at all!

I'm glad you had your LO safely. KMH quoted a 50% c-section rate to me today for inductions, so I'm kind of half expecting it. Apparently uterine hyperstimulation is a 1 in 10 occurance. That's the biggest fear of ours. If that happens and baby is distressed it's basically fast track to theatre.
KMH kiIIed my first (had a spontaneous labour just over a year ago and several midwives essentially refused to attend to us to 10+ hours, no checks despite me going from being fine to passed out in front of them) and we're back hoping for a different outcome. They recommend an induction just because of what happened when it was their own failure that lead to our firstborn's demise. They ignored warning signs on CTG too from when we just came in. Tragic all around.
I do see the difference in care from over a year ago compared to now (observed several women being dismissed in labour before), apparently using our case as a case study taught to all now. At least they've learned from their mess-ups, I suppose.

omg sounds very similar to my experience I was induced on the 7th 8pm to 2am I was screaming in pain the midwife thought I was close at it was my second baby, she checked me and I was 3cm!!! I fully lost it at that point screaming for the epidural and hysterically crying🤣 got the epidural but by 8am I had only progressed to 4cm I told them I was done and had a c section!
