I’m private renting and I like it because I got more choice in where I lived

Council housing is way cheaper than private renting. Can save abit of money.

Council is cheaper and private is more expensive, that’s the major difference.
I have a friend that always rented private and seems happy, she always find the house she wants and ideal location, now she moved north London in a house with a garden.

Cheaper and easier for some people, I’ve gone from private rent to council and I’m a lot happier it’s so much cheaper and issues get sorted efficiently and effectively most of the time which I didn’t have before and gas/electric is cheaper too

Council cheaper, no stress of being punted out because landlord decides to sell up, long term rent options. I’d never go back to private rent, all my issues with the house are rectified almost the same day, where as private rent I was paying nearly triple of what I pay now and nothing was ever fixed even after repeatedly asking, didn’t have a lock that worked on my front door for almost 2 years

Council you have the security of not being kicked out unless you don't pay rent of course. I've had two friends nearly homeless because the landlord has sold the house.
We live in a private rent, but its owned by a company who operate nationally and they're specifically built for renters, so we know we're secure

Ideally council is the better option, however given the current housing situation we have you could be waiting years!
I was sadly evicted last year and had to live in a hotel for 7months - That my council sent me to as there was no housing available!
I was offered a council place but in Birmingham which wasn't appropriate given that my family and life is in London!
Luckily I find find a private rental in London, just i had to leave my area that I was born in etc
Anyways if you do get a council place you'll be one of the lucky ones ❤️

If you’re lucky enough to get a council house in a nice area you’ve hit the jackpot. There is a huge waiting list (even if your a priority) and you can only refuse so many (maybe 3) before your put back to the bottom of the list again. But it’s worth a shot if you’re in a position to wait a while. Private rent will always be there in the meantime. Council is far better value for money and for the most part they’re reliable with repairs. You can even get lucky and end up with a freshly done (plaster paint carpeted) house. And then there’s a chance you may get to buy your house at a discounted price in the future… flip side. You could end up in a shit hole with terrible neighbours and not like the house you feel a pressure to take…. But then there’s a plan B.. go private. X

I would say council house ideally just as it’s more secure but would probably be easier/quicker to get a private rent 🤷🏽♀️
