Looking to welcome our 3rd baby in June and our bathroom has a mold issue. I’ve noticed our 2nd bedroom closest to the bathroom was at one point used as a nursery, the kids started getting really itchy red eyes and were coughing and congested. Once we took them out the room it resolved in a day or two. Reached out to current property manager a year ago and informed them. They sent out a maintenance to spray a strong chemical and we couldn’t use the bathroom for over 6 hours. It did not work. We decided to just have the kids sleep with us and use the second room as mostly storage. Now we are seeking to break our lease and have a 3600 fee waived on top of rent for the 60 day period and our property manager ignored our request and said they will send maintenance out to clean the mold. What should my next steps be?? Has anyone gone through this?

I used to be a property manager, and mould is not simply “mould.” It’s very dangerous and a health safety issue. That needs to be addressed as soon as possible, and it’s not just “clean.” It needs to be properly treated, as long-term exposure can increase the chances of having cancer!
When a tenant used to tell me they’d seen mould, I would act immediately.
You can inform your local council about this
If you need me to look into your tenancy agreement I would be more than happy to xx
Thank you! When maintenance came out to “clean” the mold I informed them of a small spot that was in my 2nd bedroom( should have been the kids room) and he told me it was just a shadow. A year later the shadow spot has grown into two large black spots. I feel horrible for not moving sooner and now I’m not sure how to fight this.

I’m sure there is a way out of it but really depends on what your lease said and the state you’re in. We sold our house when I was pregnant with my first and we’re living in a condo. When my son outgrew his bassinet we were setting up his crib which was stored and found mold on it. I panicked and began investigating the rest of the room and found a ton of mold. I left and never went back. Our landlord was thankfully really great and allowed us to break the lease and even gave us our first, last and security back. A few months later we met someone who did maintenance for the condos and they said it’s a huge problem there and it happens a lot. They just clean it and never actually get to the root of the issue. So I’m glad we were able to get out.
Sorry, I got off track but I would look at your lease and laws in your state/town. I know someone who sued their landlord (and won) because of mold.

Omg this happened to me no advise here sorry but mine just sprayed it with mould and told me it disappeared when it’s still in my roof 😭
