Induction - pessary

My first baby was induced this way. Pessary inserted about 1am, started getting contractions about 12 the next day, got painful around 3pm, went to labour ward about 6pm when I was dilated enough to have my waters broken and she was born at 9:35pm, so less than 24 hours all in all. X

My experience from my daughter was I had the pessary inserted at hospital (which was fine, mildly uncomfortable). I actually asked to go home after monitoring which you can do but may need to push for this (would recommend). I had hoped this would be enough to bring labour on (read many stories where it did) but didn’t feel anything at all. It stays in for 24 hours. I went back to hospital the next day to have it removed and be told cervix was still closed & posterior. They will only do the pessary one time and then if that doesn’t work to dilate usually the next step is prostaglandin gels which can be given every 6 hours l, depending on mg given you could end up with 2-3 rounds. It really depends on how your body reacts as you may only need the pessary or one round of gel and once you’re dilated they can move to breaking waters. I also got a sweep on 2nd round of gel as was just open and think that helped.

I had mine put in around 7pm and started getting contractions quite soon like within couple hours, helped by having a bath shortly after it being inserted. They weren't progressing fast enough tho so by I think 2/3am they took it out and gave me some diamorphine so I could get some sleep, about 15-20 mins later my waters broke and I was pushing, about half hour later he was born

With my first I had this, the first one didn’t do anything and I needed a 2nd so it was quite a long process for me. After 2 hours of having the second one out my waters broke on their own at 9pm, I was then in slow labour and had my daughter at 12 the next afternoon x

Pessary was inserted at 4pm, contractions started at 9pm and got to 10cm by 1.30am. He was born at 1.50am xx
