Hi! Im Portuguese and i was also abroad for a couples years and now I'm back! Depending on your age and how many years you worked, if you ever worked in Portugal, you don't pay IRS or you can have a huge discount. I've also heard you can apply for unemployment. But either way as a Citizen you can get Segurança Social for being a single mom and also support if you are low income. But you might need a Portuguese address before you can apply to any of them: https://www.seg-social.pt/canais-de-atendimento
in this link there's different ways that you can schedule an online appointment with them so you can go over your options. I hope this helps!

No worries! So if you never worked in here and are under 35 years old you don't have any IRS which is awesome. You can apply for help yes but like we know it isn't much at all and might take a few months until you get approved to receive it. If you are looking into putting your child into childcare, there are waitlists. Depending your on childrens age and which part of the country you will live. If and when you get approved to receive support it will be through bank checks or bank transfers. I don't know how much you are able to get because I have never requested it for myself but I do know that it's hard to get these things and sometimes they do come late and for the minimal thing they might cut you off.
If you want you can text me on private. 😊

you will need to apply for abono de criança, (child benefit) and then you can apply for careche feliz., this is a government scheme to help parents get back to work etc… only parents on low or no income will be eligible, so you would first need to be eligiable for the child benefit, and it pays for all the fees.
