I stopped BF when LO was 12months. I cut out day time feeds fairly easily, but she wasn’t asking for it so might not be as straightforward if yours asks for it. I started introducing cows milk (had to use a straw bottle for her to consider it though). After maybe a week I cut out nighttime feeds, I won’t lie this was difficult. It took maybe a week and each night I had to spend 45mins to an hour, I would pat her back, shush and hug leaning over the cot as I didn’t want to get her out. I was still feeding to sleep for bedtime, this was the last feed. Eventually I made it so we read books and put her in her cot but stayed with her till she fell asleep. She slept so much better after stopping BF at night! I hope this makes sense and helps, so you know it’s definitely possible to stop breastfeeding at this age and personally I found it to be the best age x
@Lydia when u say she wasn’t asking for it . What does it mean? I offer her breastfeed when it’s time to nap and she takes it.
I’ve read some little ones will ask by like pulling at mums top or signing for milk. I hope I’ve helped and not confused you
@Lydia yea that’s helpful. Thanks. So how much cows milk per day / schedule? How did ur little one use to sleep during day time nap without breastfeeding ?
When you get pregnant at some point the milk turns back into colostrum and baby naturally likes it less so may stop asking. Thats probably the easiest way as it's led by baby. From what I've seen of others they tend not to self wean earlier than 2 or 3 otherwise.
