Ivf pregnancy 8 weeks - progesterone shots causing lumps

I had my frozen transfer early Jan and currently 8 weeks pregnant with my second. For the most part everything with this pregnancy has been different than my first (fresh embryo transfer). The protocol is similar and I am taking alternating between progesterone shots to my backside and suppositories but this time around the shots are causing hard lumps like fatty deposits at the injection site. The doctor says these are normal. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there anything I can do to elevate these? I have 4 more weeks to go before I can stop the shots.

Hi, I am currently on my 1st fresh cycle and taking lubion injections every morning. I also sometimes get a hard lump, but it normally softens after a few hours.

I believe it's because progesterone is a very thick liquid hormone, and it gathers at the injection site until it is absorbed. It is definitely normal.

Lubion is in water and this lady might be taking progesterone in oil given she does it on her back side?
I never used PIO but read that warming the liquid in your bra 15min before hand and giving it a good massage after injection helps.

Are you using Lubion or PIO?

PIO can cause hard lumps so it’s best to warm the fluid slightly before injecting (use a heat pad) and then massage and apply heat to the injection site afterwards (a massage gun is good for this, or get your partner to do it).

Thank you all for the advice. Yes I am on PIO, sorry should have clarified. I'll get my husband to warm it up as he does my injections (I should be use to all the needles but still get anxious and can't even look). Will also try the massage gun.

Im currently taking the progesterone in oil injections and I was told to either warm the oil in my hands or under my armpit for a few minutes because injection in order for it to be able to go in easier. Also, after injection, massage area for a few minutes and then walk around or stay active for 5 mins then you can use a heating pad afterwards. That has been working for me so far as I don't have any lumps as of yet but of course im only 8dpt (3 weeks 6 days pregnant) and the only thing i have is soreness in the injection areas

I, too, used the PIO in, and i was allergic to the oil. Do you have any redness or warmth in the area of your injections?

Avatar

I don't have any redness, just bruising and lumps. The lumps keep changing shape, depending on what spots have been poked. I didn't start getting lumps until about 6 weeks pregnant. The last time we did this was over 2 years ago (my first just turned 2). I think I do recall now that we warmed the oil up. Maybe that is the difference.

Hopefully that helps. And massaging the area after injection as well

The same thing happened to me. Definitely try to massage the area. I ended up allergic to the oil in the original PIO I was using causing the lumps being larger and significant itching so they were able to change to a different one with different oil. Are you itchy also?

It sounds like you're becoming allergic to the PIO. That's how it started out for me then it got bad fast. I was having to do 2 injections a day.
