Hi I used to be homeless housing manager for Manchester council before my move to London. I would suggest get yourself on the register because there is such a long wait, were talking between 5-6yrs. Also look at private rented properties and ask your local council for financial support or if you are claiming UC then you can put in your housing costs. Please look at your local housing allowance and see what rate you can claim for. Hope this helps x

hi, I just wanted to ask bcos you have knowledge on this. I have been asked to search for private rented accommodation too however there are very few landlords that will accept payment through DSS, feels like a losing battle tbh is there an easier way or is it just the case of searching until someone accepts?

Hi so, you need to check websites like Open Rent and change the filter to accept DSS it will only show you the ones that accept. Your right there are very few but sadly it is just finding the one.

Hi I’d like to just add although the wait in council is longer I wouldn’t recommend private renting it can be very expensive and uc doesn’t fully covered the costs which can leave you at a loss though you may be entitled to a certain amount they can also benefit cap the amount you receive keep reaching out to the council it might be a wait but would be better in the long run
