We’re debating this for our eldest (born July 2021) as she has developmental delays and her nursery has said it may prove beneficial for her. Wondered if anyone else is in the same boat?

We thought about it for Maxi but he’s progressed so far since Christmas that we aren’t going to now!

Contemplating doing four days or three full and two half days - but she’s still starting in September.

Axon’s just not going but if he were I’d defer a year

My little boy also has developmental delays and we are in the process of trying to get an EHCP in place for starting school this September but the school we have put as our first choice has two new blocks especially for SEN kids and speech therapy needs ect so it would be perfect for my little one! Fingers crossed we get a place!🤞🤞

Yes, we are still not sure. My worry is that he won't be ready to sit still for year 1 when he would have just turned 5.

We are in the same position and have deferred, she's also a july baby. She's doing really well at nursery considering but feel an extra year would be beneficial to give her the best chances when she joins Reception. I understand why some don't though!

They usually have to make the year back though. So skip reception & start in year 1 or miss year 7 & start year 8. I am sending my son but will only send him 3-4 days if he struggles in the beginning as they dont legally need to be there until they are 5. Although not sure how that works if im allowed to 😬🙈

this is what I’m considering. Not sure how it works tho.

I think it’s too late to defer as you have to realest deferral at the time of putting in the application? I seriously considered it, but decided against it, mainly because my son is socially very confident

My boy won't be going in September. I believe children should play until they're 6 or 7. The system demands too much of them too soon in my opinion ☺️

did you get approval from your desired school when you asked for deferral? Also, would you mind sharing what is your childcare plan for this extra year before school?
