Genetic testing

I decided not to get genetic testing for personal reasons. I’m 38, a child of any level of health would be a blessing. How has that test gone for the rest of the 12 week folks!

I do the NIPT (now knowns ad CF DNA?) But that's because if there's a chance there is an abnormality I'd like to know so that we can prepare ourselves, make a plan for our lives, and ensure we have the right team with us when we give birth.

Children can be born with congenital issues that need immediate medical attention as soon as they are born- literally as soon as they are born. This is why the test is offered. These defects are also not uncommon. They may not show up on anatomical scans. I am not sure why you would not want to give your child the best possible chance to survive.

I did the blood one and was happy I did; no abnormalities found and this baby is a 🌈

Oop, wasn’t looking for a lesson. Just the experience of others, thanks for your whole 5 cents though

so curious as to your reasoning, and experience with not getting it

it feels like they put them together so that people are incentivized to get the genetic testing done. I am feeling the fomo of peers learning the gender while I will have to wait, but it feels right to me 🥰

but not the others? Can I ask why not? Purely through curiosity, no judgement allowed here ✨

I did NIPT. I know I’m a carrier for sickle cell and cystic fibrosis. My husband refuses to get tested. We do know that both kids are carriers of sickle cell. I guess I don’t see the reason to get it every time if I have an idea of what my kids might get from me and no idea what they might get from their dad.

Because ignorance is bliss? No, thanks. Some conditions are time consuming and change lives. I would want to know and prepare accordingly 😅

not so much, a little more personal of a reason that that. But I can see what you mean

interesting. And such a great perspective. Thank you! 🙏🏾

I was offered it because of my age too. I took a chance though and my boy turned out healthy

I'm not a fan of the sack testing cuz it's risky for the pregnancy but the blood test I do because I have double ee anemia and If the baby doesn't that can be a problem and I can need to take suppressants to keep the baby from being attacked by my immune system the blood test just tells them if I'm having an immune response like I'm fighting a foreign body
