Leaving baby

So we’ve only left our little girl with someone else twice since she’s been born - once for a meal out for my birthday a month ago and my MIL came over ours to watch her and today for my partners birthday where my little girl went over my MIL for only 6 hours. Both times when we’ve came home she’s hysterically cried upon seeing me, pretty much inconsolable.

Granted today she was tired because she hadn’t napped but now I’m just overthinking everything. Does she prefer being with my MIL to me. Has she forgotten me in the space of a few hours? Does she not love me?

Has anyone else experienced this. I’m a first time mum and just so worried about everything☹️

I think your looking into things too deep, she’s a baby

She’s getting older, she’s starting to understand

It’s probably the opposite to what you think. You are her safe space so she’s letting out her emotions when she see’s you.
I’m a single mum so my daughter has done a couple of sleep overs with my brother and sis in law to give me a break and I have the same fears as you because she doesn’t seem bothered at all. She literally couldn’t care less that I’m picking her up or if they bring her back she’s more interested in looking at the dog 🤦🏼‍♀️ I don’t get a smile or cry or anything 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s very normal! It’s an overwhelming sense of ‘you’re back, I’ve missed you’. I work in a nursery and when a little one starts coming to nursery, in the first month or two when the parent picks up, I see this 75% of the time that they’ll break down in tears upon seeing mum. I’ve just experienced it with my little one at 2 years old. She was fine when I entered the room, happily eating her dinner and then she saw me and came running and sobbing. It’s a good sign of healthy attachment 🩷
