I need to do home renovations, it will be £600 a month repayments but after August this year I will be making £700 a month as I'll be going back to study for 2 years

Any suggestions as I want to do the home renovations but scared that I'll won't be able to pay the £600 per month

I would not do the renovations until you’ve finished your studies. Doesn’t make any financial sense. Unless it’s something that you must do rather because you just ‘want’ to.

If you can't afford it then you can't do it yet. How are you planning to survive on only £100 spare? Even if you have a partner supporting you that's not a lot of financial security for yourself.

Is there a way to do a cheaper version working towards the full renovation? Or could you do part of it and the other part at a later date? How much do you 'need' to do it for safety reasons? If it's just a want then leave it.

£600 a month sounds extortionate, I would ahve a look online and see if there's anything you can physically do yourself to minimise the expenditure

it's a complete kitchen and bathroom renovation

it's a complete kitchen and bathroom renovation, ain't got a partner it's just me

the house is a state more or a need to fix it rather than a want

If you can’t afford it, don’t do it

Ok well then you clearly can't afford it so I would hold off.

£600 a month for how long? Who are the repayments through? Is it a kitchen and bathroom company? Could you maybe look at a bank loan and repay it a smaller amount over a longer term? Even if it means paying it back over a higher number of years at least the monthly amount will be manageable and you will have some wriggle room in your budget. The only way I would commit to that much is if it was going to make a real noticeable amount in the interest and I knew we could comfortably afford it x

Absolutely do not do it, you will get yourself in further debt by doing that as you will need to cover your living expenses.

Ohh I see, well yeah from the sounds of it in this current financial state everyone is feeling the pinch and you wouldn't wanna be in debt/ more debt, just imagine paying all that money and then it's taken away as you couldn't afford your rent or mortgage etc

It's very clear that the renovations will be unaffordable once you're back studying. Definitely get your studies completed. The renovations can wait

I would do the bare minimum if needed. Eg if the kitchen sink it’s working properly I’d just get the sink fixed rather that a whole new renovation. Complete your studies and see if you can save a little bit more for a rainy day and then once you’re studies are done then you can use the money on renovations.

Last think you want to do is have £100 to live off a month. Remember you will have bills to pay and maybe other unexpected bills may crop up too.
