How do I tell Mum to slow down on the buying stuff for my baby?

I counted and for 12-18 months clothes. She has gotten her 11 pairs of leggings, a T-shirt a bodysuit and some dungarees.

In a selfish way. My partner and I (mainly me) want to be able to dress our first child in what we want and like.

11 pairs of leggings is an entire wardrobe!

It’s so wasteful also as a good 50% of it I don’t like and won’t get worn.
And I know she’s just being nice. But how do I nicely say to stop?

I don’t mind the odd outfit here and there but she goes mad.

Should I just keep quiet and donate it?

I would just keep it and use them when they’re doing something where they might get messy. Now that they’re getting older there’s likely to be a lot more messy play and exploring so the clothes would be perfect for that and saves the clothes you really like getting ruined xx

this is true and a good shout. I do still think 11 pairs of extra messy play leggings is a lot.
So, I would like to gently tell her to only buy maybe on birthday and Christmas. Just needs to be a way that’s not hurtful.

I couldn’t even tell you the amount of leggings I have for the next size up - my local community is always handing down 😂

I keep requesting that people do not buy clothes as gifts but have now learnt that people will do it anyway if they want to. I have Christmas stuff still with tags on as it is for his summer age so won’t fit him by Christmas. I have different piles on the go for Vinted, charity shop, friends but I agree, it feels like such a waste of money 😭.

it’s a nightmare isn’t it. I hate the waste. My mums friend gave us newborn sleep suits when she was 3 months old 😂

So, I kindly said to her that I appreciate the clothes gifts but she has so many and would you mind keeping it to Christmas/birthdays. But usually have clothes sorted. And that it’s such a waste etc.

She said ‘That’s ok’. I have mentioned before about clothes so this is another mention but let’s see if this one sticks as it was direct this time.

do you feel obliged to take them? I’d just say ‘Thank you. But I have plenty’.

I want them 😄
I then hand them on to other mum mates I’ve met off here

I had this. If they still have the tags on, take back to the shops and swap for the right clothes. Even if they've been reduced in the sale, at least you can get something that'll fit them in the right season x
