@Amy thank you, was hoping it would be something like that 😊
My partner also had a meltdown when I said I wanted to opt out 😅 it’s the same percentage but obv lower as previously said x
You stay on 9.8% but as your total pay is less it’s 9.8% of a lower amount. I split mine over 12 months and in the last 3 months because I was only getting about £1000 I paid about £30 per month into the pension. It is much better to stay in it you will thank your dad and partner when you are older
Yes I’ve done the same and stayed in the pension! As everyone else has said I’ve just been paying less while I’m on mat leave, in my trust you have to make up what you haven’t paid into your pension when you get back to work, as the trust have still been contributing their percentage of your original salary. I think they do it in instalments so it’s not a big chunk when you get back but does lower your salary a bit for a few months. Not sure if all trusts are the same though x
@Chloe my trust does the same but only if you go onto zero pay for the last part of your leave. If you still receive some kind of pay for every month then you pay even the minimal amount into pension then you don’t need to pay anything when you return
@Louise I think this is what the trust where I work does too. I got my estimated mat leave pay through in a letter and it said they would collect any pension payments in arrears when you return for the months where you do not get paid. Im only taking 39 weeks and not having the 13 weeks unpaid so assuming this wont be the case for me as i will be paid something every month i am off and they can take my contribution from that!
@Emily yes if you don’t take any time unpaid then you won’t owe anything when you return. I took a full year off so I spread my maternity pay for that reason.
You still pay the same rate but they take it out as if you've not split your omp. For for the first 8 weeks your pension will be 9.8% of your full pay as if you didn't split it. Then when you go to half pay it will be 9.8% of your half pay. I had a shock in my last pregnancy as was like nearly £500 for 2 months and I'd split my pay over 12 months
@Sarah thank you for the warning with this! My first two months are already looking bleak as no smp either 🥴 will be relying on savings for a bit to pay my bills!!
As far as I’m aware you do still pay the same percentage but your salary will be a bit lower than usual so it won’t be quite as much as usual. I was a B7 on the same % pension, and I don’t recall it changing.
