Gestational diabetes

I just found out I have gestational diabetes, watched the video the hospital sent me and picked up my kit. But did anyone else find this insanely overwhelming. There’s so much to think about and I feel like I got no real information or a chance to ask any questions..

I just got an email..
the email told me to watch a video and pick up a package from the hospital which has information. It’s all so confusing

Avatar

Oh wow that's not the greatest then is it

Avatar

It’s really not..

Avatar

When you picked it did they go through it at least?

Avatar

nope. I had to pick it up from reception. Didn’t speak to anyone medical personal at all

Avatar

That's even worse!!!! I would put in a complaint and demand to be seen as have they told you about growth scans every 3 weeks?

Avatar

they have not told me about any scans yet.. apparently I have a phone appointment on the 8th of May. But that seems far away

Yeah speak to your midwife and be like I've been told I have gd they've not actually spoken to me I collected the equipment from a receptionist please help

This is my second pregnancy with GD and 2 diff hospitals, my first one I had an appointment on the day to tell me the results and show me how to record my sugars and diet changes, I would then have a call with the gd midwifes every 2weeks to discuss my readings and any concerns, we also had group meetings to discuss diet changes first time I ended up on metformin pills due to high fasting sugars.

Second time around (current pregnancy) my hospital sent me a text to go collect my kit nothing else, and a paper explaining how to collect my readings, a week later there was a group call to discuss what is diabetes and another for diet change after 2 weeks had a call with the midwife 1:1 ( they do this to allow you to make the diet changes to see if you can manage it just with diet control) I unfortunately this time around have to take insulin ( and had to learn via a video) but still have phone call every 2 weeks to monitor readings and adjust dose

Please feel free to message me if you have any questions!

this is very helpful! Thank you!

Oh forgot to mention, they will most likely assign you to an obstetric team whom you will have at least 2 meetings with towards the end of your pregnancy, you will also be offered at least 2-3 extra growth scans to ensure baby is growing well and not becoming too big ( which tends to be the biggest concern with GD) they normally will do a last scan around 36weeks and have an appointment with your obstetric doctor between 36-37 to discuss labour and delivery. Sorry I know its a lot of info to take in! And can be extremely overwhelming and frustrating sometimes but know you are not alone! Wishing you all the best of luck!

this is more helpful than the leaflet I got given in my pack. Thank you!

There is a group called Gestational diabetes UK on Facebook which is really helpful. There is loads of information on what you can eat and there is also a £5 pm subscription for all their recipes. Plus loads of posts from other mums so you don’t feel alone!

@Kirsti got the dreaded call this morning collected my kit from the receptionist an hour later but did get an appointment booked there and then whilst on the call for next Thursday to discuss it all and to have a growth scan before too it was fairly positive at my trust and they're still on board for home births too

Avatar

that’s great!
I’m going home to visit my parents in Denmark next week. So I will call them up when I come back and demand an appointment..

Avatar

@Kirsti yeah do it all after the bank holiday and fingers crossed they'll listen as you can't be waiting until may that not acceptable have a lovely time visiting the parents x

I bought the freestyle libre device for continuous monitoring.. I’m able to control my fasting and post-prandial levels with high protein diet and post meal walks. But it does feel overwhelming.. the amount of effort required to follow a schedule for someone like me. At lunch I’m thinking of dinner and at dinner I’m thinking about my morning fasting glucose..

Avatar

I get this. I feel like I’m testing constantly. And the kit doesn’t even fit in my usual handbag, so when I’m out and about I have to bring an extra bag, which is easy to forget..

Can you see anything? I’m 12 DPO 🙏

My own opinion is that this is inconclusive (can maybe see a vvvfl but could also be an indent too hard to tell) but curious what others see

C - section

Hello lovelies, I’m getting closer to my date of c section.

Can I ask how it all went for you? I felt prepared and now I have this awful feeling what if I bleed out! I’m sure that’s not the case. But I just wondered how it went, and how the aftermath was. I have seen on social media people say it’s horrendous but then I speak to friends and family and they’re like yeah it’s not easy but you can cope! You can walk, etc. I think it’s the unknown… lol!

Also were you all sick during your procedure and did you all get terrible trapped gas? If so what tips do you have xx

This is a bit strange.. but hear me out

I am 36 weeks and 4 days today.
I had that feeling, you know when you are trying to take a tampon out on your end of period and it kind of hurts because the tampon is dry? I had that sensation today?

Now I feel like I have to push something about my vagina? It kinda tickles but uncomfortable. I’m not having any pains at all anywhere btw so can’t be baby ??

cheating dream

i need advice but PLS DON'T JUDGE!!!
last night i had a dream, i always used to dream my partner cheating on me with my friends, or being super mean, but since we had our baby those dreams disappeared. for context, we haven't been able to have sex yet, I'm 12 weeks pp, and my pelvic floor is so tense, and it's awful.
last night i had a VERY weird dream, it was so realistic, and different from others, he handed me his phone, and ask me to help him handle this girl, like annoyed? in the chat this girl was super obsessive, and messaged him a lot before he replied. she asked him to sing a song to her, and he sent her a voice message singing it, and other voice messages i couldn't listen in the dream. i wrote her to stop, and she was angry, telling me he started it. then i confronted him about this (still in the dream) and he changed his attitude, he seemed so guilty and said to me he had deleted some messages. i don't remember much else, but i woke up with the URGE of checking his insta messages. we've been together for 5 years, and I've never checked his phone, and neither has he (that i know if, at least) and contained myself, but I'm still very much concerned about it. it felt like an epiphany, a revelation or smth like that. I know people might think I'm overreacting but i can't get it out of my head, it was so specific.
i though about asking him to show me, but i know he'll be bothered that i don't trust him (i would be too in his place), but if he's cheating he would say that to make me feel bad. also i thought about checking his phone in his sleep, and then ask him to see his reaction, but feel so bad, i wouldn't like if he went through my phone without asking, even tho I have nothing to hide.
please, be kind!!
