Not until 6 months and when showing all the signs to be physically and mentally ready. Earlier weaning (without a medical reason eg high risk of allergies) can be detrimental to long term gut health and there’s just no good reason to do it earlier (again, other then where medically recommended). NHS guidance is they should be 6 months or older and can stay in a seated position and hold head up. They need to be able to swallow something and not just push away with their tongue and ideally have decent hand eye coordination. My midwife said to wait until 6 months unless told otherwise because they show interest in anything and everything haha. Think there are other things too like they need to be able to hold their own head up for a while in high chair etc…Also said didn’t need to use baby rice can use normal adult plain porridge etc..I started gradual with purée and built up slowly. Luckily my little boy loved everything and a got involved but it isn’t always like that it’s just time and trying over and over with them :) x
I started offering tastes as soon as baby girl was showing signs of interest in what I was eating as well as strong neck and head control and could sit up straight in a chair supported - for us around the 5 month mark and it became a routine at 6 months xx
