I'm booked in for an elective section on Wednesday. After recieveing the call to tell me the date last Thursday, the midwife told me the anesthetist would call me the next day (Friday) but I never got the call. So I call the hospital today and they were quite dismissive. They said they have a lot of people to call so don't always have time to phone everyone...but it's not really necessary, they'll just see me on the day. This has not filled me with a great deal of confidence tbh!
Could anyone who has had this call tell me what was discussed and if it was important / they found it useful?

I haven’t had a call and mine is tomorrow. Apparently they will come and see me in the AM :) xx

So i missed my anesthetist appointment as I had norovirus. I tried to get it booked in before my elective but didn't. In the end I had my preop appointment the week before which an anesthetist spoke to me about everything. On the day also the anesthetist came in and spoke to me about everything the same as the preop appointment and also what would have been spoken about in the anesthetist appt.
I get why you don't have confidence after that experience. When they didn't rebook I was worried and concerned. However from my experience of having them speak to me on the day it was nothing different from what they would have.

@Samantha thank you, good to know I'm not the only one! Hope it all goes really well tomorrow ☺️ xx

@Emma thank you Emma! That's so reassuring ☺️ hope it was all a super positive experience for you! X

With my first section the anaesthetist just came to see me in the morning before the surgery and presume they will do the same this time, they don't even offer phone calls at my hospital, hope that helps reassure you x

thank you and I hope all goes well for you too xx

@Joanna thank you Joanna. That definitely helps ☺️ x

@jenny thanks Jenny ☺️ xx

All mine did was tell me my iron was low and I need a few transfusions- something my midwife would have told me.
Never saw anaesthetist with my first section and she said they must have missed me. They will talk to you the morning of your section anyway!

When i had my section i had a face to face appointment two days before.
We just chatted about the type of drugs they would give me and i had bloods taken and checked weight blood pressure etc
This was all repeated the morning of my section.

that sounds more like a pre op than anaesthetist, but could have been both.

Hey, sorry to hear you didn’t get this and have felt dismissed. I just noticed you’re probably in the same region as me (Aberdeen). I also got the midwife call on Thursday and booked for my planned section on Friday. I got the anaesthetist call quite early last Friday and was just a quick call to discuss my previous section and epidural and what will happen on the day. Also a brief discussion about generalised risks with regard to spinal.
They did say they’re in exceptionally high demand at the moment and booked in extra clinics so maybe you were accidentally missed off? I found the midwife call most informative (ie when to fast from etc). On the day, the anaesthetist and obstetrician will be round to check on you beforehand so will get this at the very least.

Maybe my trust combine it?
it was pre op with the Anaesthetist.
The morning of the section i didn’t see the anaesthetist until theatre and a midwife did all the checks/chat.
