In the back, with a mirror so I can see him

In the back with a mirror as said above x I never knew you could use the front seat but have read if you do, you must deactivate air bags. Just seems safer in the back x

In the back with a mirror

On short trips she is in the back because that’s where the isofix base is and I don’t have isofix in the front. I have a mirror so I can see her. On long journeys I belt her seat in the front with the air bag off

Back always. You can also buy a camera for the back so you can see easier

In the back, but the front is also fine. Cameras aren’t legal.

I got stopped by police last week, who said he won't fine me this time but will next time, I had my daughter in the front he said only really allowed if rest of the car has carseat in the back and you have no choice to have one in the front. This was in the UK.

@Incognito if the child is rear facing and the air bag is off then it is perfectly legal and you can’t be fined for it

@Lauryn that is exactly what I said to him, she was rear facing and the airbag was turned off but he still said will fine me

@Incognito sounds like fear mongering, don’t pay any attention to it as mentioned above it’s perfectly legal and you’re doing nothing wrong.

In the back, it’s illegal to drive with child in the front unless ur airbag is deactivated

in the back, rear faced, we brought a camera which goes on in dark. it's a good investment for long term too

@Pam / others what camera did you buy? Thanks

In the back with this camera. Absolutely amazing! Wouldn't drive before but now I'd go anywhere. No bright lights and night visibility too https://amzn.eu/d/igRub7J

so i wouldn't say expensive but at least ur not looking bk to check baby, will show u baby, breathing its easy to fit

i always had her in the back with camera , but any trip longer then 10 min and she is sleeping all the way ... i used dummys so before she learned to put it back i had spares in the front

Thanks everyone, I drive with him in the back as well and use a mirror. Just wanted to know if any one drives with them in the front x

In the back. Always. I was in a car accident with my baby on Christmas Day when she was 8 weeks old. Every medical professional who checked her over made a point of checking she was both rear facing and in the back of the car. It is safer. You need to be careful with the cameras though as if they are in your view then it isn't legal.

maybe the camera is illegal in some places. I never been stopped for it in 🇬🇧

Either, if it’s a longer journey then at the front

@Bethan it also does depend on the car bonnet and boot

@Incognito that officer clearly doesn’t know the rules when it comes to children in cars 🙃

@Pam just because you’ve never been stopped for it that doesn’t make it legal. It’s considered the same as watching a live stream like tv, so it’s not allowed.

I’m not understanding how it’s illegal to have a camera in the car 🤣🤣🤣.. same as having a normal car cam for just incase. Honestly tf

@Jelena google it.

@N 💞 I sure did, I’ll have you know your finest Google result came up with- Yes, it is legal to use baby car cameras, also known as rear-view camera systems, in the UK. However, there are some important considerations to ensure safe use.  Legality: Dashcams and other cameras used in vehicles, including baby car cameras, are legal to use on UK roads. The primary concern is not the presence of the camera, but rather how it is used and whether it obstructs the driver's view.

@N 💞 You’re saying that it’s legal to have 2 car cameras (rear and front) but illegal to have one that’s strapped onto a seat? Make it make sense please 😁. You’ll also see driving instructors using the cameras as well. Even worse, the cameras are located either right under the rear view mirror or just behind it, still reducing a little amount of visibility through the windscreen.

@Pam It's not about the camera it about the distraction it causes to the driver. Leading to driving without due care and attention. Which is why Dashcams have to be out of the way of drivers eyesight and also why modern ones have the facility where there is no display while the camera is recording.

@N I'm always doing long journeys on motorway as my family live far. I've been stopped before but that was because I forgot to put headlights on (fog brain) no issues with the dash cam, they looked all round the car inside and out

@N 💞 The Google research Pam did, baby camera, as you asked we both provided 😉

@Jelena well it sounds like google doesn’t even know, as I’ve come up with it saying it’s illegal and you’ve come up with it saying it’s not! Still not worth it IMO as it would 100% be a distraction 🤷🏻‍♀️

@N 💞 Then that’s totally up to you. If you imagine it’s illegal then sure keep it that way in your head. If they haven’t been banned until now, then they are not banned. If there are still people using them, then they’re obviously not banned. Im unsure if you know but any new laws in regard to driving are usually plastered all over the internet. The fact that there’s not one that says baby cams are illegal, simply means they are not illegal. Enjoy your day 😉

@Jelena if I ‘imagine’ 🤣 don’t be patronising. I’ve had another look online and it looks like the difference is the wording. If you google baby MONITORS, it says it’s legal, if you search baby CAMERAS, (such as headrest cameras that provide a live feed) it says they’re illegal. You do you, just try not to get fined 😉

@N 💞 The word is baby camera… not monitor. I’m unsure what you’re confused about in this instance. Oh do share that law that’s on the government website about baby cameras (all laws are on the gov.uk website) so please do find it and share with mothers who “aren’t aware”. Hypocritical for you to say I’m patronising when you’re simply, 😁incorrect😁

@Jelena please get a hobby 🤦🏻‍♀️

@N 💞 speak for yourself 😘😘

@N 💞 you clearly have nothing better to do than sit behind a screen providing false information to mothers.

@Jelena 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve already acknowledged that your research has given you one answer and mine another, I don’t know why that is. It could’ve been left there and we could’ve agreed to disagree but you continued harping on and being argumentative and patronising. At this point (given the fact there are screenshots on this thread showing statements saying that it’s both legal AND illegal) I’d say it’s a bit of a grey area in the eyes of the law and quite frankly impossible to know what is incorrect or correct information. Please do not reply to my comment, I’m not interested in continuing a conversation with you.

@N 💞 don’t comment on peoples posts without knowing complete truthful facts then 😁. Simple as. I don’t stand for people like you who provide women with false information. Please don’t reply to my comment, you’ve shown yourself for what you are to the rest of the mothers. Thanks ❤️

I drive with my baby in the back seat with a mirror. I wouldn’t put her in the front as that is not as safe and would have me paranoid 😂 If she needs something, then I will pull over and help her.

@Jelena you are super rude and do not come across well in this conversation 🙈 It is currently a grey area in the UK however, they would come under ‘television receiving apparatus’ which is illegal like a mobile phone. Whilst on a daily basis most officers would likely turn a blind eye, if you were to be involved in an accident you could be charged with driving with undue care and attention and your car insurance would be null and void.

@Lauryn I find it concerning when false information is shared, especially among mothers who rely on each other for support. If you're unsure about something, it's more responsible to say so rather than state it as fact. Unless something is clearly outlined as law on an official government website, it's not illegal. It's that simple. Let's be accurate and help each other, not mislead.

@Jelena she literally shared the screenshot she found and again, television receiving apparatus (which a camera is) is illegal. You are misleading by stating ‘as a fact’ that they aren’t illegal based on an AI overview from google which as we’ve seen, changes based on how you word the question.

@Lauryn right?! So rude, patronising and unnecessarily argumentative, and yet I’m the one that’s ‘shown myself for what I am’ it’s literally laughable 😂 Hopefully women reading this thread will take into consideration it’s not just black and white and not take the risk!

@N 💞 yep definitely patronising and rude. She’s blocked me now for no reason 🤷🏼‍♀️ I understand people wanting to use cameras but they just aren’t worth the risk, insurers will do anything to get out of paying as it is! In my opinion, a mirror is plenty and not everything needs to be a gadget

@Lauryn blocked me too! Absolutely, a mirror is more than good enough. Thanks for having my back!

@Kassia I do the same thing! X
