Is my baby playing enough?

My little girl is nearly 5 months old, and I'm wondering what other Mamas are doing for play time as I'm worried she's not getting enough for her brain development.

When we get up on a morning, I normally lie her on the baby gym and give her different toys to play with. She doesn't really like tummy time and starts to get fussy after about 5 minutes (I've tried everything to keep her there 🤣). I've been trying to get her out every day, but she doesn't really play with toys when we're out and about, so she's not really getting any play time in. Once we're back home, I play nursery rhymes for her (no TV, just through the Alexa on Spotify) and sing along with her, which normally makes her smile and laugh. I try to rotate her toys every few days, she goes to a baby class once and week, and I take her to a sensory room once a week too.

I'm just wondering if there's anything else I've missed for this stage of her development?

Wow thats a lotšŸ˜šŸ˜Š I dont think I do this much! We do go out for walks a lot too, I dont stress about lack of toys then as for them even seeing the sky, trees and other stuff is super stimulating, thats my view on it. My baby is the same with tummy timešŸ˜… I do what I can like you! You got me inspired for the sensory room though, we might give this a try, I will go and find sth, so thanks!

I really struggle with play time as my baby has had severe reflux since 5 weeks old so struggles laying down. I usually have to sit him in his bouncer and put the play mat in front of him to reach for. We go for a walk at least three nice a day, I worry I’m not doing enough

Sounds like you’re doing a great job to me! 😊

I’ve got a small basket that I fill with a selection of toys each week (different sounds, textures, colours, lights, books) and we just dip into that between other things we’re doing. I find that helps to keep him (and me hahah) more interested because each week it’s different things x

It sounds like you’re doing a fabulous job :) I bought a cheap sensory kit on Amazon that comes with rainbow coloured ribbons, a Pom Pom thing, sensory cards and lots of other bits so I’d recommend that as my baby loves it, especially the ribbons! Babies don’t need much at this age as very simple things are fascinating to them :)

My baby’s favourite activity is looking at my face and smiling back at me🄹
And also looking at her siblings playing loudly around her
