Biting on blankets, pulling out wool/threads and then chewing?

Is this normal? He has a huge tantrum if i take the blanket from him. At night time sometimes I go in and his chewing on threads.

My son is 3yrs old , he's started doing this recently however with his mattress not his blankey
...... I'm considering it could be pica....

Although your son could even be teething and finds comfort in yanking the chunks and not really realising 🤔🩷
