Tummy time - need help

Hi mommas, my son is 5 and a half months and still absolutely hates tummy time. I have even gotten to the point I’ll let him watch YouTube tummy time videos to see if he will do it. The max time he will try is like 4 minutes. We try multiple times a day. He doesn’t use his arms to push himself up either. All he wants to do is sit up. When he is on his belly, you can tell he wants to try to move and crawl but obviously doesn’t know how yet. Any advice?

Have you tried putting him on to of a boppy or a rolled towel?

yes we typically use the boppy and that gets him to last a bit longer, but he still will end up just screaming and crying 😩

Poor guy! That's all I got 😫 maybe try seeing a physical or occupational therapist to help

If he’s crying like he might be in pain, I would definitely talk to a pediatrician and maybe an occupational therapist. If it’s just a normal unhappy cry, you could let him tap out at four minutes and just do tummy time more frequently! I think it’s recommended you do 30-40 min a day but I don’t think the individual stretches matter as much. My son loved the Fischer price piano play mat and the fish water mat (both from Amazon.)

Do you have one of those water mat things?

Mine is almost 6mo now but at about 4mo I was concerned he wasn’t getting enough tummy time so we did like boot camp for about a week 😅
Even if he only wanted to be on his tummy like 2min, I would give him breaks and then just keep putting him back on his tummy with different toys in front of him, brought him to different areas of the house, etc.
I also used YouTube to help keep him engaged (even though I try so hard to limit screen time, it ended up helping a lot)
I just did this as much as we possibly could during that week

Ever since we really committed to focusing on it, I can’t keep him off his tummy.

Now we struggle with getting him to roll belly to back lol

BUT every baby is different!!
Remember that ❤️

i’m going to keep trying! I tried to avoid screen time too, but it does seem to help a little with tummy time. I do have a water mat but he could care less about it! I’m sure he will love it once he gets over hating it lol. There are times where he will roll from back to belly and he seems to not cry as fast if he does it on his own🤣

I feel like it’s more of a cry line he doesn’t want to do it 🤪 I am going to keep trying. We will get better (I hope) 😩🤣

My baby didn’t like it neither! But she does fairly well pushing when she’s on our chest facing us. That’s still some type of tummy time :)
